Quilting Adventures in RichmondQuilting Adventures in Richmond, Virginia is located in a non-descript strip center that is a little off the beaten track. But once you find this hidden gem, you will never forget where it is located. A haven for both beginners and expert quilters, this friendly and fully stocked shop is a place where you can get all of your needlework supplies, no matter how complicated the project. They also have a comprehensive calendar of classes, ranging from beginning quilting to advanced patchwork techniques, taught by certified and award-winning professionals. Plus, there is always some sort of special event scheduled, show-and-tell evenings, block-of-the-month contests and all sorts of other activities that brings in quilters from all around the metropolitan area. Perhaps the most valuable thing that Quilting Adventures offers is the generosity and helpfulness of the staff. They will willingly give of their time and their knowledge to help you out with a design or fabrication problem, even if you didn’t buy the fabric or materials at their shop. It is truly a collaborative atmosphere where women (and a few men) come for friendship, camaraderie and of course, quilting! It’s so nice to see a local shop help perpetuate an age-old craft and make it popular again for today’s craftspersons.

El Camino Real in Portland, Indiana is the Best Authentic Mexican Diner

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

El Camino Real in PortlandEl Camino Real not only has quality food, service, and is quite the authentic Mexican restaurant, but it seems to be an unknown matter of value in the city of Portland. For anyone who is tired of watered down and false Mexican food, such as Taco Bell, this restaurant would appeal to their taste. The food is almost perfect and you almost want to bring home leftovers so you can warm in the microwave for a snack or lunch for the next day. The service is also a fantastic component to the food. Service is always important and the waiters never stop working hard and always try to make things more pleasant for your meal. I suggest trying El Camino Real multiple times to get a taste of what meal you really take the appeal to, even though everything is quite fantastic. If possible, another plus is that it’s never too rowdy. It seems that it’s a hidden gem in the city and there is always peace and quiet, which equals the quick service too. There’s never been a place where that I’ve revered so highy and talked so much of. I highly suggest this restaurant and would give it 5 stars out of 5 stars every visit. Mikey’s Gyros in Moscow, ID The Best Gyros

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

Mikey's GyrosMikey’s Gyros is my favorite place to eat in Moscow. Being a college student, I want good food but cannot afford to pay five-star prices. Mikey’s fits the bill perfectly. The food is always fresh, fast and well-prepared. In two years of eating there, I have never once had a bad meal or bad service. Mikey’s also has a decent selection of beers and wines; you can buy per glass or a pitcher/bottle for the table. Everyone working there is a college student and it is locally owned, so there is a real incentive for them to treat their customers well. Seating is plentiful both inside and outside. Inside, there is local art on the wall, all of which is for sale, but if the weather is nice, it is quite pleasant to sit at the tables on the sidewalk. Several times a month, Mikey’s hosts concerts in the back of the restaurant. The concerts are always fun too, most often local bands. The acoustics are surprisingly good for such an area, and although there is no stage, I would highly recommend going. Tickets are always a steal for the quality, amount and atmosphere of music. The only drawback to Mikey’s is that parking can be difficult to find as there is little parking available on Main Street.

Ivanhoe'sWhile spending Father’s day with my son and wife, They decided to surprise me with a stop in a small town in central Indiana called Ivanhoe’s. A cute mom and pop type restaurant feel with very large parking lot that is always filled to capacity for good reason! When walking in the restaurant, my wife hands me a menu with over a hundred ice cream, shakes and sundae selections that all looked very enticing. With awesome flavors such as “milky way” and “mint chocolate Oreo” I had a hard time deciding. Not only does Ivanhoe’s serve a vast selection of ice cream, they also have a full dinner and lunch menu that includes awesome hamburgers and signature nachos. Even though Ivanhoe’s has a steady stream of customers, The employee’s are quick, friendly and get the food out to the customers quick and with a smile. the prices are very reasonable and portions very generous. My wife and I spent only $11 dollars during our visit and we will most certainly be back when we are in the area again. One of the reasons Ivanhoe’s has been in business for so long is that they never seem to sacrifice quality in their food and they always use the best ingredients. Highly recommended to all! Accurate Locators has GOLD FEVER!

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009
Arts & Entertainment, Products / No Comments

Accurate LocatorsAccurate locators sells underground detectors. If you want to know if it’s underground, their equipment can tell you. They advertise being able to locate the pipes (metal and plastic) in your septic system, as well as untold treasures and gold. You can even attach their detectors to a boat and go hunting for sunken treasure! As you walk into the door of the showroom outside of Vegas, you’re struck by the sheer volume of pictures of treasures and the kinds of equipment they sell. Pictures of what you may ask? The pictures include: A gman standing atop an enormous stack of gold bars in the Phillipines, an article about a guy who uses these machines for finding bottles in abandoned outhouses (I wouldn’t want to dig those up!), and various artifacts from meteorites to ancient religious icons. There are also bright digital scans produced by their equipment and the kinds of finds those scans represent, e.g. a coin or a soda can. You have to call ahead for a demo (about two hours long), but the folks there are welcoming. The sales guy, after a brief discussion about what you need, takes you outside to a gravel driveway, where you try the equipment out and find the various “treasures” he has buried. We “found” a treasure chest and a culvert pipe with the equipment he showed me. The bottomline: if you don’t have gold fever before you arrive there, you will by the time you leave! Chowning’s Tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia offers History Lessons Along with your Meal

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

Chowning's Tavern in WilliamsburgChowning’s Tavern is an eatery that visitors to Colonial Williamsburg will want to visit. Located in the historic district next to Market Square and the Courthouse, Chowning’s offers traditional fare that would have been served during the 1700s in an authentic, rustic atmosphere. One of the great things about having a meal at Chowning’s is that the servers are dressed in Colonial costumes and are able to eat food that would have been prepared at that time in history. Brunswick stew, peanut soup, spoon bread, sweet potato pie and many other Southern specialties are on the menu, all at fairly reasonable prices and all very delicious. During the evening, the servers will come over and show you the types of “tavern games” that diners would play during Colonial times. There are several authentic Colonial restaurants in the historic Williamsburg area, but Chowning’s is my personal favorite because it is the most casual and the servers also act as entertainers during the evening hours. They will teach you some of the popular parlor games from Colonial times, explain the culture of the day and make sure that you are having an excellent time. This is an especially good place to come with children, since they can get a good history lesson at the same time they consume an authentic Colonial meal.

Whims & Wishes InteriorsWhims & Wishes is a local, family owned business that specializes in unique and well priced home furnishings and decor. They have a large variety of special order, custom upholstery and incredibly unique accessories and home decor items. The upholstery pieces are very high quality, well built, and available in hundreds of fabrics. The owner and merchandiser do an amazing job of finding very unique furnishings and decorative items. They make sure that the items they find aren’t available anywhere else and they don’t stock large quantities of each item so you know that what you’re getting is unique. The staff is amazing and takes great time finding out what pieces you’re looking for and if those pieces are actually right for you. They go the extra step to find the right pieces and they keep great records so if they get new pieces in that they think will look great in your space they call or email and have the pieces ready to see when you go into the store. I’ve never received a call or email about pieces that were totally wrong for my space. The staff also does a great job following up to make sure that the customer is 100% satisfied with their purchase and if you’re not, they work very hard to make things right. All in all, the store is amazing and unique and I don’t know where I’d go if I couldn’t shop there! Want to find more great businesses in your area? Visit GlobalYP the online local yellow pages.

Designed Treasures Where Art & Unique Creativity Come To Life

Posted by admin on June 30, 2009
Retail Stores / No Comments

Designed TreasuresDesigned Treasures is a place that has the most unique gifts and jewelry I have ever seen. The staff are helpful and friendly and really go out of their way to make sure you leave pleased with everything you have purchased. They take time to educate you on what you buy and instruct you on things if necessary. They have everything from candles to cards, baby gifts and even furniture. It has been voted in past as one of the best shops in Philly and that I must agree with. Whenever I have a gift for that special someone I am guaranteed to find it here. Their prices are comparable to any hallmark type store, but the gifts are one of a kind and if you are looking for the trendy stuff they have that as well. They do carry the yankee candles and vera bradley purses. Its a montage of class and trends rolled up into a cute little family owned store where the people really care about their customers. Where can you find that anymore? Located in the Park Ridge Shopping center right in the corner. Be sure not to overlook it. Want to find more great businesses in your area?
