Bird in Hand The Most Unique Department StoreBird in Hand located in Chico, CA, is the most unique department store I have ever run across. It sells everything from stemware from Romania to Giant Yo-Yos. Home of the World Yo-Yo museum and World Yo-Yo championship, this is the place to find all sorts of unique items. There is plethora of unusual board games, boomerang style toys, kites, and interesting clothing in every style from hippie tie-dye to hawaiian print. Their staff is kind and courteous. I bought a beautiful set of Romanian etched stemware from them and unfortunately a piece was broken. They were willing to accept a phone call and ship the item just based on my description. One of the greatest thrills for anyone on Christmas or birthdays was to see the gold Bird in Hand sticker label closing the box or bag because they new the present would be fun and unique. The friendly staff would encourage you to try on clothes, play the games, or take a boomerang out in the street for fun! Making it a great visiting and shopping place for families as well as the local college students. They also participate highly in community events supporting the summer concert series and local farmers markets. Their attitude of fun and true customer service has made them a local legend and a downtown Chico mainstay for over twenty-five years. Now they have a limited online catalog bringing this Chico legend to the world. If your in the area be sure to stop in. You won’t be disappointed or bored. Gold Star Restaurant in WorcesterGold Star Restaurant is a hidden gem in Worcester, MA. The restaurant itself is quite small, but the chefs and the wait staffs have big smiles and customers always come with big appetite. The restaurant offer varieties of delicious breakfast and lunch meals with affordable prices. Consider this, you can get 2 eggs any style you want with toasted bread, a selection of pancakes, waffle, or French toast and bottomless hot tea and fresh brewed coffee for only $2.95! They also have the yummiest corned beef hash omelete which comes with toasted bread and homefries. Other than their breakfast menu, they also offered burgers, hot dogs, gyros, and many other delicious comfort foods. I believe they have been around for decades and have been featured in many newspapers for their award winning food, but the staffs are still down-to-earth and very familiar with their customers. This restaurant is the perfect place to hang out with your friends and family for good food without breaking your bank. I myself have been their loyal customer for nearly 5 years and I regularly come there with my friends every weekend for breakfast. There are several other diners in the area that may be bigger and newer, but I always come back to Gold Star Restaurant. Want to find more great businesses in your area? Amma in New York City, NY amazing Indian Resturant

Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

Amma in New York City, NY amazing Indian ResturantAmma is a high-end Indian restaurant tucked away in a residential building in Midtown East New York City. Both the service and cuisine are extraordinary. They tend to mix other Asian type dishes with typical Indian fare and have a really creative take on how to use Indian spices in spectacular dishes. Be prepared for high prices, but the whole dining experience make it completely worth every penny. The service is amazing and the ambiance is really beautiful. I decided to try Amma during restaurant week in New York City and was definitely not left disappointed. I ate a four course meal that had reasonably sized portions for such high class dining. Starting with a small cold cucumber soup and then a similarly small Indian style crab cake that was an unbelievable appetizer, I was afraid the portions would not be enough to fill me up. However the entrée was a reasonably sized tandori chicken with a tomato based sauce and a side of Indian rice and cauliflower (which was to-die for!). For desert was a small portioned mango cheesecake. I left the meal satisfied and full but not stuffed. It was a very pleasant experience from start to finish and I would definitely recommend to anyone who is coming into New York with a little extra money to spend. Pinkadilly Tea at Smythe Cottage in Fredericksburg, Virginia Mixes History and Relaxing Charm with a Cup of Hot Tea

Posted by admin on July 31, 2009
Education / No Comments

wk0501pinkadillysnPinkadilly Tea in Fredericksburg, Virginia, is a quaint and charming tea room that tries to remain true to its historical roots. Housed in Smythe Cottage, records indicate that this structure was built on what is thought to be the site of the blacksmith shop of the former Kenmore Estate in the downtown area of Fredericksburg. Constructed somewhere between 1830 and 1850 as a private residence, this cozy little building is now home to this popular tea room, which is known for its afternoon tea service (by reservation) and a small but select luncheon menu that caters to both locals and tourists alike. What’s particularly unique about Pinkadilly Tea are the stories that surround the history of the building. Rumor has it that during the Civil War era, Smythe’s Cottage was used as a house of ill repute. In addition, many believe it is inhabited by two ghosts, who periodically make their presence known at tea parties! With more than a dozen varieties of loose tea from which to choose, including such delectable flavors as Arctic Raspberry, Brandied Apple and Crime of Passion, Pinkadilly Tea is a place where you can kick back and relax after a day of shopping or touring. The hot beverages are flavorful and fragrant and provide an instant feeling of calm after a busy day. Pinkadilly Tea also operates an adjacent gift shop that has handmade and one-of-a-kind items, as well as loose teas and tea-related gifts. Want to find more great businesses in your area? New York Style Pizza in Cleveland, OH is the best pizzaria in northeast Ohio

New York Style Pizza in Cleveland, OHI cannot say enough good things about New York Style Pizza in Cleveland, OH. I discovered this little pizza shop one evening while working the late shift at on of my part time jobs nearly ten years ago. I remember it vividly because it was the best meatball sub I ever had. They toasted the bread ever so lightly and it came with grill onions and peppers. Plus they made their own meatballs. I later learned that this was not the only unique quality about this restaurant. It turns out they not only have the best tasting pizza in Cleveland but the biggest. They offer a 36 inch pizza that you have to turn nearly sideways to fit through the door. It took us three days to finish that pizza but it was good to the last piece. New York Style offers several menu items from sandwiches to salads, but the most interesting item I found and fell in love with is their Jamaican beef patty. The best way to describe it is to call it a spicy beef hot pocket. You can order it with or without cheese. They do not make them there and you can order them on the internet, but they are the only eatery I know that serves them. I have to say I really wish I still lived in the area because I haven’t found a place quite like it since. If your ever on the west side of Cleveland check them out you wont be disappointed. The Cheese Steak Shop in LivermoreThe Cheeses Steak Shop operates several locations in the Bay Area, including San Francisco, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Hayward, and many others. They been here in CA for more then 30 years and their great tasting food and even better service has made them a sure family favorite. With the way the econmony is now, it’s unlikely that any us will be flying over to the East Coast in order to have a great philly cheese steak; now we don’t even have to leave home to do it! Anyone from Philadelphia will tell you that above all other ingredients in a true Philly cheese steak it is the roll that is most important – hands down what makes these guys unique is that they have authentic cheese steak rolls. The rools may be Amoroso’s flown in from Philly. Second, you have your choice of cheese and this can be a deal-breaker for many: American, provolone, and Cheez Whiz are all available. Another great thing about the Cheese Steak Shop is that they carry Tastee Kakes. If you add it all up, authentic rolls, choice of cheese, and Tastee Kakes and you will find the experience here just like you are in Philadelphia, minus the attitude. DogMode Dog Boarding and Daycare in Salt Lake City, UT the premier dog boarding

DogMode Dog Boarding and Daycare in Salt Lake City, UTDogMode in Salt Lake City, UT, is a premier dog-boarding facility, offering drop-in daycare, overnight boarding and self-wash dog showers. If you are the type of person who worries more about your pets when you travel, than you do your home, DogMode is for you. Not only do they offer on-site veterinary services and a truly caring staff, but you can check on your pets using their two web-cams. For overnight boarding, your dog gets his or her own dog run with an elevated bed. The sleeping areas are cleaned and sanitized daily, and the walls are solid so your pet can sleep peacefully. Unlike many dog boarding facilities, DogMode lets you bring your pet’s favorite blanket, stuffed animals, toys and food. They will also administer pet medications, free of charge. The most comforting aspect at DogMode, for me, is the responsible and caring staff. From the moment we arrive, my dog is greeted by name. The staff member kneels to my dog’s eye level, lets him smother them with kisses, and then escorts him into the spacious, air-conditioned, off-leash roaming area. They stay with him as he acclimates to the crowd of the day and he is then free to run, smell, climb on play furniture or jump in the cooling pools. The staff are not afraid of a little dog drool or messy paws. They play with the dogs and facilitate exercise and healthy socialization in a safe, secure off-leash environment. Pho Mimi in Duluth, GA, Nice Restaurant for Family & Friends

Pho Mimi in DuluthIf you wake up late on a cold Saturday morning and are hungry, where could you go for a nice warm plate of food? Maybe you want to hang out with some friends or invite your family to come also. Well, to me, Pho Mimi is just the place for this. It is located in Duluth, Georgia on Pleasant Hill in the H-Mart shopping center. The restaurant serves traditional Vietnamese cuisine at a very reasonably low price. It is very spacious, colorful, and fun, and not to mention the food is wonderful. The servers are all nice, prompt and always give you what you need quickly. When I go, I usually order pho. It is always served quickly, very hot and very good. They always give you enough bean sprouts, mint, cilantro and the tables are always stocked with the other needed condiments for the pho. The egg rolls are always great. Also, their Bun is very good also. The sauce that comes with it is just sweet enough and not too over powering. Another great thing about this restaurant is that they sell Lollicup Bubble Teas there. They are always made perfect and the boba (or tapioca) are never too soft & squishy or too hard. I used to come every week to get a bubble tea from this place. Over all, this is a great restaurant for you to hang with friends or bring the whole family. Arts & Entertainment, Retail Stores / No Comments

4 Color Fantasies4 Color Fantasies sells comics and lots of them. Whether you are a fan of mainstream/traditional comics like Batman and Spiderman or an aficionado of smaller/indie works (Mouseguard, anyone?), you can find what you’re looking for at 4 Color Fantasies. 4 Color Fantasies stocks a wide range of comics and stays current on updates. All comics are bagged and boarded, but you can open them up to take a peek before deciding to buy. Like most comic shops, 4 Color also has a bargain bin of older comics where you can add to gaps in your comic collection for cheap. In addition to comics, 4 Color Fantasies carries comic-related toys, busts, posters, and t-shirts. Prices are reasonably and competitive with larger local retailers which carry similar items. 4 Color also has a small computer gaming area if World of Warcraft is more your style. One of the best things about 4 Color Fantasies is their yearly participation in the comic industry-sponsored Free Comic Book Day in May. 4 Color’s Free Comic Book Day is like a mini Comic-Con. Booths and tables are set up in the parking lot, and there’s usually a few Star Wars Stormtroopers on hand as well as other costumed superheroes. Some of the booths are staffed by local artists, writers, and role-playing gamers. The atmosphere is fun, festive, and colorful—and not quite as crowded as the real Comic-Con.
