Roxy was built on Chincoteague Island, VA, in 1945, and includes only one screen. Typically the theater has an early movie, usually around 6 and a movie at 8, offering families two different showings. The movies there are typically kid friendly, and there are plenty of seats in the theater as well. The Island Roxy changes movies usually once a week, sometimes twice a month, and they have special nights where you can catch a classic movie, picked by the movie club. Rarely, they might have a live performance, but typically stick to actual movies. The theater is flanked on both sides by gift shops, making a tourist’s evening complete with a movie and shopping. The theater follows the island’s beach theme, being painted a peach color, and the whole place is very quaint and charming. It’s much friendlier than a huge theater, much better for families and small children, and they offer all of the amenities that a regular theater would, including fresh popcorn and snacks galore. The only complaint with this place is parking. On the island you can find free parking, but if you can’t find a spot there, you are left with parking on the street. All in all, this place is fantastic for families looking for a cozy spot to watch a family friendly movie.
