Go Mad At Mad Dogs British Pub In San Antonio, TX

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Mad Dogs British PubMad Dogs British Pub in San Antonio is a wonderful location to spend your St. Patrick ’s Day! It’s full of lively, entertaining music and wonderful people, not to mention of course the delicious brews! Although my personal favorite is their frozen margarita, they have more types of beer on tap then you could ever ask for. Rumor has it they will be serving special green beer on St. Patty’s Day, which you don’t want to miss out on! Whether it’s a Holiday or not, go on down to San Antonio’s picturesque riverwalk and hang out at Mad Dogs – each day of the week there is something to do there – plus, the bartenders and waitresses are all really personable. Men will appreciate the short skirts of the waitresses, but women can look forward to a good conversation with an attractive bartender with a wonderful accent. Plus, great food and entertainment are never far at the Riverwalk. It is the perfect place to hang out with friends, have a party, or meet new friends! With all these pros, and great prices to boot, you’ll never want to go anywhere else when you are in San Antonio. It’s like you’re actually in an British pub! If You Live In Seattle And You’ve Never Been To Ireland, You’ll Find It At The Owl n’ Thistle

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Owl N' ThistleI moved away from Seattle several years ago and I miss many things about the wonderful city. Owl n’ Thistle Irish Pub maybe one of the places I miss most. I’d never been to an Irish bar before 1996 when one of my friends asked me to meet him there one weekend night. I was immediately taken by the music. The Owl, as we called it, was home to Seattle’s leading Irish musicians.  The one common denominator with all the bands I saw there was the authenticity of the bands. These were genuine Irishmen, not Americans trying on lame Irish accents. Another thing I loved about the Owl was the food. While Ireland isn’t known for culinary excellence, I found the Owl’s food to be excellent and the portions to be right. The food was so good that I made it a typical first date destination. I’d especially recommend visiting on St. Patrick’s Day. Multiple bands, the proper Irish spirit and an environment that can’t be beat. You won’t find troublemakers passing out from too much green Miller Lite, just people who appreciate the Irish culture and want to celebrate the right way. Ye Old King’s Head Brings St. Patrick’s Day To The Beach In Santa Monica, CA

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Ye Old King's HeadYe Old King’s Head – or just “King’s Head” to the locals, which, in this case means anyone from Great Britain to Santa Monica – is where the Brit expats and tourists gather for beer, food, and company. On St. Patrick’s Day people everywhere put on green ties or shirts, and have a non-stop rowdy party. This 30-year-old pub takes green to a new level, with a party that is probably heard more than 6,000 miles away in Ireland. On a regular day, the place is filled with the sounds of live sports from the UK (rugby and soccer, anyone?) and wild stories. On March 17th, however, everything turns green and big – from the food to the décor, and green beer never tasted this good. As if patrons weren’t lucky enough to be in a little Tudor pub at the beach in Santa Monica, they get to try Brit Dogs, Potato Skins, Pork Pie and Breaded Mushrooms, not regular beach fare. Guinness Stout leads the lists of beers. They sell meat pies and Irish Cheddar cheese to go. On St. Patrick’s Day, the place gets more wild than a World Cup game with the home team. Just think Guinness beer, crazy green darts, old friends, drunk new people and everyone in green. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory

Doyle’s Cafe – The Most Irish You Can Be Without Crossing The Sea In Jamaica Plains, MA

Posted by tluke on March 15, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Doyle's CafeMy husband and I have lived in Jamaica Plains, MA for about ten years and we have been to Doyle’s Cafe many times. The great thing about this place is that it is great for a Saturday morning brunch when no one is around AND it works well as a tourist-stop when family and friends want to come in and see the real Boston. This is a famous and politically connected bar where the Irish and political elites of Boston still come in for a drink. It is where President Obama called and found Sgt. Crowley– the Cambridge Police Officer who arrested a black Harvard professor. Sgt. Crowley was drinking his “usual” beer here– and this is the place for “usuals.” Even if you aren’t looking to develop a long term relationship with a local pub, this is still a great place to hang out and be a part of the pulse of this Irish-American city. If you sit at the bar, choose the end away from the door for your best “people watching” post. The booths in the back are great for having your own private meeting, but not for seeing and being seen. And, don’t forget to eat and drink while you are there. They have fantastic American-ized versions of Irish pub classics. Green With Envy? You Will Be If You’re Not At Brian O’Neill’s This Saint Patrick’s Day

Posted by tluke on March 15, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Brian O'Neill'sBeing a university student, it’s preferable for me to find a nice pub close to campus where I can walk home after knocking back a few. With St. Patrick’s Day coming up, I have the good fortune to have a great Irish pub in my backyard–Brian O’Neill’s Restaurant & Pub. With an authentic Irish pedigree and a great atmosphere to boot, Brian O’Neill’s won’t disappoint. The bar itself has a pretty comfy couch lounging area and several TV’s (for watching the latest football match, of course). The pub grub is not to be missed either. Instead the lame usual fare, O’Neill’s serves up some original fare–fish and chips, roasted corned beef and cabbage. My favorite is the shepherd’s pie–which they add Guinness to. So Irish! They have live music very often and an original Celtic band on St Paddy’s. This month they’re having their annual Sexxy Kilt competition, so men, if you’re brave enough to strut your stuff you can win some big bucks (and the adoration of us females). And… just to soothe those souls wondering, yes–they do serve the quintessential green beer. In summary, Brian O’Neill’s has it all–a laidback atmosphere, a great selection of drinks, cheap pub grub, live music and green beer. Take advantage of the patio space while you’re there on St Paddy’s! If there is any space, of course. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.

Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub – Home Of The Biggest St. Patty’s Day Festival In The Northwest!

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Kells Irish PubKells Irish Restaurant & Pub is definitely an amazing place to visit during St Patrick’s Day. I visited this pub with friends last year and they lived up to their slogan “Home of the largest St. Patrick’s Irish Festival in the Northwest”. The green beer was flowing and the songs were being sung out loud and proud. Located in Post Alley around the historic Pike Place Market, Kells is a great way to spend some time with friends after a hard day at work or to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. The pub is always buzzing and filled with life no matter what time you go. The restaurant gives you a taste of Ireland and also the culture that you would encounter if you were to visit. The outside seating is also great because it puts you in the middle of Pike Place Market and you can people watch and take in the buzz of the city. If you are looking for a great single malt scotch, this is the place to come to; they have a great collection and are very proud of it. This is definitely one of Seattle’s best Irish pubs when it comes down to celebrating St. Patty’s, I urge you to try it. True Irish Hospitality In Worcester, MA At O’Connors Restaurant And Bar

Posted by tluke on March 14, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

O'Connors Restaurant & PubIn the heart of central Massachusetts is the lovely emerald known as O’Connors Restaurant & Pub. The restaurant is locally owned-and-operated by a family that is passionate about sharing their Irish culture and cuisine with the world. The atmosphere inside is always electric. The lighting is cozy, the walls are heavily but tastefully decorated. Everything about O’Connors is warm and inviting, and the staff and owners kibitz with both regulars and new customers. The bar offers a wide selection of beers (imports and domestic) and liquors, and has Guinness on tap, naturally. There is also a full wine menu, and an extensive selection of Irish and Scotch single malts, as well as Irish whiskey. The bartenders are kind and good humored, and won’t hesitate to get to know you. The menu focuses on hearty dinner fare, with typically Irish food being the stand-out dishes. These include Guinness pie, lamb pie, amazing corned beef, bangers and mash, and their very own “potato pizza” (a layer of potato skins While O’Connors is always lively and loud, it is electric on St. Patrick’s Day. Though it is usually closed on Sundays, they are open on St Patrick’s Day for a viewing of the local parade, as well as music, food, and general merriment throughout the day. The owner is from Ireland, but the restaurant fully embraces all of the American spirit and traditions of St. Patrick’s Day. All in all, O’Connors is a great place to spend a St. Patrick’s Day, but be sure to book your reservations early! The Pines – A Great Bar Filled With Great People In Chelsea, VT

Posted by tluke on March 14, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

The PinesThe Pines in Chelsea, Vermont is an excellent bar in a peaceful and rural setting. The bar is right in the middle of downtown Chelsea – a town with plenty of quaintness and charm. It may not be the most high-tech bar that you’ve ever been to (no HDTV’s here), but it has two pool tables and someone that is always willing to play. Usually for St. Patrick’s Day you can get green beer and they also serve plenty of Guinness – which is on tap of course. The bar is usually filled on St. Patty’s Day with plenty of people ready to have a great time. The jukebox is always cranking out plenty of music and the bartenders will always serve until closing. The kitchen has some excellent fare as well so you won’t leave hungry. It wouldn’t be a bold statement to say that The Pines is the best bar in Chelsea – it is in fact the only bar in Chelsea and it is always full of the best of people. In my opinion that is what makes or breaks a bar – its not the décor or the fancy drinks – it is the people. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
