Joey’s is an institution in Lafayette, and has remained preeminent as a gourmet food store and meat market even as such stores have proliferated with the town’s growth. In business since 1981, Joey’s has always been the premiere destination for top quality meats and seafood in town. While the meats are top quality in their own right, I’d definitely recommend letting Joey’s prepare them for you, as well – their prepared foods are wonderful. We make it a practice to tailgate before LSU games, and when we do, we always throw some of Joey’s incredible shish kebabs on the grill – they tend to make us the envy of the parking lot! They make wonderful soups, stews, and etoufees, as well, and ship their prepared foods most places across the nation. They also have a great deli with a wide selection of domestic and imported meats and cheeses. Here, too, their prepared foods shine – their shrimp salad, in particular, is the stuff of Lafayette legend. Their bakery is famously good, as well, especially their signature cake balls. Rounding out Joeys’ offerings is their wine selection, which rivals any in town – and the staff is knowledgeable enough to help you make the right selection. Not just a market, Joey’s also caters events and is open as a restaurant for lunch. Try a delicious po’boy, stuffed potato, or deli sandwich to get a taste of why Joey’s has become such a Lafayette institution. Try finding business listings online with globalYP.net.

Carolina Grocery is a good choice for a quick food run or other simple errand. Their location at 315 Pleasant Avenue in New York, NY provides a source of goods that does not require the walk to 1st Avenue, which is wonderful, especially late at night. The staff is kind and accommodating (by New York standards). Another thing that gives them an advantage over nearby competitors (and there are plenty) is that they accept credit or debit cards as a form of payment. There is a ten dollar minimum to use your card, but with their selection (which includes a fairly wide range of items, from basic non-edible goods to food and alcohol) it is often not hard to meet this requirement. Prices are fair for NYC, which is saying something as many retailers choose to continually raise prices even above the normal crazy city usual. I would recommend Carolina Grocery to a friend, especially one living in the East Harlem area. That close to FDR Drive, it is usually impossible to find many stores that are closer. For a great experience that will make you want to come again and again, make sure to give Carolina Grocery a try. Give globalYP.net a try and search through tons of local directory listings online.

I am not usually one to shop at expensive shoe stores. I changed my mind when I visited Easton Shoes in Columbus, Ohio. I received individualized attention, despite the fact that I am in my early twenties and was wearing worn jeans and a t-shirt. The clerk was friendly and knowledgeable. He also understood that I was working on a bit of a budget. I have horrible bunions that cause terrible pain when I wear incorrect footwear. I knew I needed a quality pair of shoes, but I could not afford more than $100. The clerk listened to me as I explained my foot pain and the bunions. He told me to walk around the store as he observed my gait. He then pulled out 3 pairs of shoes he specifically thought would help my problem. They were all within my price range as well. I chose the pair that was the most stylish. I have experienced almost no pain since I was fitted for these shoes a year ago. If you have specific footwear needs, I would suggest visiting this shop before you buy anything more expensive, such as custom made inserts. I will definitely visit Easton Shoes again! What’s New Consignment is an amazing consignment store located in Lakeland, FL. This is not your typical consignment store! They have designer items for consignment. I like this store in particular because most consignment stores accept everything. This one, however, only takes quality products and the brands I am looking for. They carry products for children, women, and men. The items they sell include shirts, pants, shoes, hats, purses, accessories and much more! From the time you walk into this store, you feel the difference. They set the mood for shopping in an eclectic environment. There is dim lighting, thick fabrics, candles, and lamps with shades. The staff is always friendly and the owner is present in the store all the time. It is clean and well organized. You can walk in and get a feel of where you need to go. There are different rooms to guide you, including the accessories, formal, shoes, kids, juniors and misses sections. The dressing rooms are covered in thick, rich fabrics and have huge mirrors, which I love because I can see everything! I know that when I am looking to purchase something I do not have to scan the item sure there is nothing is wrongly priced because the employees already have! If you are looking for affordable, consigned designer clothes, this is the store for you! For more great finds like this consignment store, visit globalYP.net, an online directory.

Big Top Stationery, located in Harrison, New York, is a great mixed bag of items. This place sells everything. The store is located downtown near the border of Rye, and is in the A&P shopping center. It offers low prices on a ton of different items. They have an entire wall filled with the newest magazines. It feels like you are on the street in New York City at a magazine kiosk. They have a ton of cards for all different occasions. One of their biggest items is actually their lotto machine. They sell lotto tickets to all the major New York opportunities as well as national drawings such as Mega Millions. They also sell a variety of baseball and gaming cards for the younger kids. They have affordable prices on their gaming cards, and as a kid I loved opening pack. They also are a UPS shipping location and have the entire back section dedicated to UPS shipping. They offer a ton of shipping supplies and you can drop off your packages here. They sell a bunch of other cheap trinket items. For a small store, it sure sells a whole variety of things and is an excellent place to get some shopping and gift shopping done. GlobalYP.net is an excellent place to find local directory listings online.
Jitterbugs Toys is a really cute toy store that I stumbled upon while running some errands. It is filled with unique toys that you don’t see at your Target or Walmart. The store is packed with super cute items. A lot of the toys look international, like they either come from Japan or Europe. I was able to find some Bruder trucks that I haven’t seen in any other local store. They have a wide array of different toys and gifts, one wall was filled with toy vehicles and another section was full of pretend toys. There was also a section that carried some educational Kumon books that I was looking for online. They also stock some cute Hello Kitty gear. The prices are reasonable with some toys starting off at 5 bucks. I had a good time wandering around. This is not a place I would take my two year old – I would definitely have a hard time getting him out of there. The next time my son needs a gift I will probably come here. I like the fact that this is a local store and not a chain store. It has a mom and pop feel, with the owners ready to help and answer any questions that you might have. Let globalYP.net, an online directory, help you save time.
Everything from tires to toys, Benny’s of Old Saybrook offers knockout prices on it all. Friendly and courteous staff will assist you as needed with ease. You can also get your tires changed at super discounted prices. They have an excellent bike section for bikers of all ages. This store takes you back to the days of the true department store era. It’s quaint, but still up to date. They offer lots of new toys, but even still carry some harder to find ones. Benny’s is a shopping must for shoreline families. During the holiday season, Benny’s also offers layaway plans. With the economic crunches we are all in these days, I found this to be a HUGE bonus! We were able to get all of our holiday shopping done, hassle-free at Benny’s. They have lots of appliances, a hardware section, electronics, etc. They put out cheerful displays for each holiday season where you are sure to find even more bargains! They offer model airplanes and cars at deep discount prices. So, if you are a beginner, this is the place to go! The store is always neat and clean, with an ever changing inventory. If you are a thrift shopper, you will travel far and wide to find all things nostalgic, collectible, or just plain odd. Re-Runs Thrift Store in Hellertown, PA has a bit of all of that mixed together. Customers should expect to find cheap items for their household, including books, movies (VHS! Remember those?), music (in many formats), plates, pots and pans, furniture, knick-knacks and toys. On top of that, they have a decent sized collection of used clothing, all for one dollar. Of course, as with any thrift store, selection will vary from day to day. If you are from the area, you know that many of the thrift stores belong to chains, or are connected to organizations. Re-Runs is totally independent from all of other chains and the experience you get when visiting a small, independent store is totally different than one you get at a “Goodwill” or something similar. As an independent store, it is a for-profit business. Donations of furniture, kitchen items, books, and music can be made if you want to get rid of them, and pick-ups can even be arranged with the owners. But since this is a small business, do not expect to get paid for your items. Be sure to visit re-runs if you are in the area. Who knows what you may find!
