Last week my kids decided to go have some dinner out for their dad’s birthday. We chose Johnny Rebs’ in Long Beach. My kids know this restaurant as “the place they can throw peanut shells on the ground”. It is a great little restaurant with great home style southern food. Once in the door, we were greeted by the manager and seated where we wanted. The walls are lined with old license plates and vintage pictures giving it a real homey feeling. The waitress was very sweet and gave the kids a children’s menu and crayons. My children dove into the peanuts tossing them right off the table. The menu has a lot of different food to choose from, but we got the dinner for two. The portions are very big and all the “fixins” are all you can eat. It was my fiancés birthday so we could not leave without a birthday song from the staff. A large hat was put on his head and everyone sang. He was then asked to do a chicken dance on top of a mound of peanuts. They made this evening special to us. I would highly recommend going there if you are in the mood for some good southern cooking or just interested in the peanuts. Ichiban Sushi in Poway, CA is the perfect place for those who crave traditional sushi, without the pizzazz that goes into the trendy sushi places. As your walk through the door, you are greeted by a waitress or sushi chef, who tells you to take a seat anywhere you want. The waiter will hand those at the table a menu of the sushi (some of which are 50% off) and customers simply mark off what they would like. The waiter than personally hands the order to sushi chefs. The sushi takes a while to make, which means that the ingredients are extremely fresh. I do not think I have ever tasted more fresh avocado or fish. The salmon will melt in your mouth! The dishes are so delicious, it is hard for me to pick just one that I liked. As our party was winding down with its food, the waiter came over to us, yet again, and handed us a plate. He gave us the jalapeno tempura on the house, which ended up being the perfect ending to a delicious meal. This sushi house is hidden and a well kept secret that must be revealed. I love it and I especially appreciate that they offer take out. Believe me when I say I will definitely be back again! Mars Web Creations has got to be the best bang for your buck when it comes to web services in the Longview/Kelso area. Located at 1003 South 6th Ave in Kelso, WA they’re unlike most web service providers in the area. They list all of their prices and fees up front which are very affordable. Their hosting is very inexpensive and reliable. I have been with them for over a year now and have not experienced any down time. I originally contacted them to get a quote for a redesign of my company’s website. They put together a very professional proposal for me to take back to my boss and answered every question I had. After agreeing on a price, we signed some papers and they went right to work on our web site. Most companies like to wait until the last day of the deadline to complete a project but Mars Web Creations finished 2 weeks under deadline and even threw in a couple of extra pages free of charge. We even signed a maintenance contract for 10% of the price the other guys in town had to offer. Their customer service is second to none and they are by far the most knowledgeable and competent when it comes to web design and development in the Cowlitz County area. One of the reasons the Strawberry Street Café in Richmond, Virginia is so popular is because of its salad bar. The salad bar is a scrumptious selection of fresh fruits and vegetables, biscuits, slaws and Southern-type specialties. But perhaps what makes this restaurant so unique and the salad bar so special is that the salad bar sits in an oversized, antique bathtub in the middle of the restaurant. This neighborhood and city favorite generates so much buzz, that it was recently featured as a question on the popular game show, “Jeopardy.” Host Alec Trebeck read the answer: “The Strawberry Street Café in this Virginia capital is famous for its bathtub salad bar,” to which the question was: “What is Richmond?” The delightful eatery is a destination for students, artists, lawyers, business people, homemakers, musicians, families and grandparents – everyone is welcome here. The menu features a full complement of sandwiches, salads and hot entrees, plus they have a popular Sunday brunch. JP’s looks like an old English pub, with an American twenty something make over. The bar is accented with dark wood, while the lighting is recessed and just low enough so as not to interfere with 4 big screen TVs, and yet bright enough to make the search for friends an easy task.. (TV sound is off except for an occasional playoff). The menu is creative, healthy and tasty. Its fare includes unusual appetizers like a shrimp and mushroom empanada to a grilled ahi tuna sandwiched in its own wasabi sausce. The beers are endless and changing almost every month. On draft you will find the somewhat exotic YOUNG’S DOUBLE CHOCOLATE STOUT. And in the bottles they try and surprise you with narrowly defined concoctions like DOGFISH HEAD RAISON D’ETRE. St. Augustine, FL is a beautiful little town that was just named to U.S New & World Reports 10 top small cities. The bar is right on the bay front in the historic old St. Augustine. There is a main room once you enter the bar, but the best room for that serious little party is just to the left after you pass the bar. They also offer a fine wine list that features a few nice French wines like: Chateau Ferrande Blanc Graves. And a wide selection from places like Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and of course California. The staff goes out of its way to be friendly and attentive.
