I have traveled throughout Asia and the only restaurant that has ever thoroughly satisfied my need for Asian cuisine in America is Koji Osakaya in Portland, OR. Due to my minute appetite, I rarely attempt multiple course meals. However, at Koji Osakaya, I always strive to consume the ultimate variance of flavor and dish. To begin my meal, I often indulge in Agedashidofu. The outside of the tofu is perfectly crisp and the inner tofu melts in my mouth with the remnants of sweet dashi. Next comes the part of the meal that has never been matched by any restaurant I have encountered outside of Japan: kitsunetoji udon. The bowl approaches my table with the steam rising. I often burn my tongue, due to my inability to resist its deliciousness. Floating in the soup, the aburaage always acts as the perfect sponge of flavor with the soft, string bits of egg clinging alongside. After gorging myself on these delicious dishes, I often order the tempura ice cream because I simply cannot resist. The fried outside is often still hot and, when combined with whipped cream, it is a dessert that will never be matched. Koji Osakaya is honestly my favorite restaurant of all time. The quality of cuisine has led me to compare every dining experience to its perfection. If you ever find yourself in Oregon, you must go there!
