Cape Cod isn’t exactly the first place that comes to mind when I think of great spots for a winter getaway. When my husband told me to pack an overnight bag for a surprise Valentine’s Day dinner, I wondered where in the world he was going to take me that could be reached by car rather than plane. I was charmed from the first moment I set foot inside The Dan’l Webster Inn. The restaurant is separated into multiple different rooms, making it feel very intimate. Décor is luxurious but not dated or worn, and the soft lighting and candles are just right for romance. Staff are attentive and happy to provide knowledgeable food and drink recommendations. And the food…wow! Dan’l Webster’s menu leans heavily towards classic dishes prepared exceptionally well. There are of course plenty of seafood options (this is the Cape, after all) along with hearty beef, duck, lamb, and even vegetarian entrees. Save room for dessert, as I found this the hardest course for which to select only one item from the mouth-watering array of choices. If you want to really surprise your Valentine by starting the holiday with romance (or if you stay overnight at the inn), don’t miss Dan’l Webster’s incredible breakfast menu. Request a seat in the Conservatory room, and you’ll want to linger over your coffee forever, feeling the sun warm the room and staring out the glass walls at the gardens. That is, if you can take your eyes off your Valentine! To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
