O'Connors Restaurant & PubIn the heart of central Massachusetts is the lovely emerald known as O’Connors Restaurant & Pub. The restaurant is locally owned-and-operated by a family that is passionate about sharing their Irish culture and cuisine with the world. The atmosphere inside is always electric. The lighting is cozy, the walls are heavily but tastefully decorated. Everything about O’Connors is warm and inviting, and the staff and owners kibitz with both regulars and new customers. The bar offers a wide selection of beers (imports and domestic) and liquors, and has Guinness on tap, naturally. There is also a full wine menu, and an extensive selection of Irish and Scotch single malts, as well as Irish whiskey. The bartenders are kind and good humored, and won’t hesitate to get to know you. The menu focuses on hearty dinner fare, with typically Irish food being the stand-out dishes. These include Guinness pie, lamb pie, amazing corned beef, bangers and mash, and their very own “potato pizza” (a layer of potato skins While O’Connors is always lively and loud, it is electric on St. Patrick’s Day. Though it is usually closed on Sundays, they are open on St Patrick’s Day for a viewing of the local parade, as well as music, food, and general merriment throughout the day. The owner is from Ireland, but the restaurant fully embraces all of the American spirit and traditions of St. Patrick’s Day. All in all, O’Connors is a great place to spend a St. Patrick’s Day, but be sure to book your reservations early! Becketts In Berkeley, CA – An Authentic Place To Play Irish

Posted by tluke on March 14, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

BeckettsJust walking into Beckettes pub and restaurant on Shattuck in Berkeley and you step into Dublin, Ireland. Not just on St. Patrick’s Day, but any day. You get hearty food ranging from meat pies, stews and corned beef and cabbage. This is no dive. Come for the beer and stay for the food! All of it is tasty and made to order. The beer selection is broad, ranging from cool craft brews to the standard Guinness. The inside is dark and not my favorite place to spend a sunny day, but the absolute perfect place for a winter or rainy day. There are a couple great fireplaces to dine by and an upstairs area that holds the heat well. On weekends and special weeknights they have great entertainment, often in the form of comedic musicians found in Ireland. The location is also just right because you can take BART straight to downtown Berkeley and stumble back after you have had your requisite number of St. Patrick’s Day beers. They don’t open until late afternoon and find that Cal game days are very busy. Avoid parking in downtown Berkeley at all costs! Becketts is a great place to break into song for St. Patty’s Day! Have A Jolly Good Time At Ireland Four Courts In Arlington, VA

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Ireland Four CourtsIreland Four Courts is an awesome Irish pub located in downtown Arlington right by the Courthouse metro. Though you can get a great Irish experience any time of year, Four Courts is known for great St. Patrick’s Day festivities and is especially popular in mid-March. When St. Patrick’s Day rolls around, Four Courts really gets into the spirit, hanging green lights and festive clover decorations. Events are held throughout the week, usually kicked off with Irish karaoke or an Irish-themed trivia match. Trivia is popular at Four Courts but especially the St. Patrick’s trivia, which attracts Ireland “experts” from as far away as Fredericksburg. Irish-themed prizes are handed out, and trivia is held early to make way for later events. Four Courts does not have a cover charge and always brings in a live band. The live band usually plays traditional Irish music and the performers dress-up in goofy outfits and dance. It attracts crowds, so it is recommended to get to Four Courts early! The doors open for St. Patrick’s Day as early as 10 AM and they have Irish food and great drink specials. Four Courts also holds holiday fundraisers and special charity events, these can usually be found on their website. Four Courts is a popular bar and always turns out big crowds for its St. Patrick’s Day events. Anyone living in or near Arlington looking for an authentic Irish experience should take care not to miss the events at this spectacular bar. The Closest Thing To An Irish Pub Outside Of Dublin – O’Malley’s Pub In Seal Beach, CA

Posted by tluke on March 14, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

O'Malley's PubSt. Patrick’s Day is almost upon us. St. Patrick’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays and many others feel the same way. Main Street in Seal Beach, California houses some of the most authentic Irish pubs in the state and every March 17th crowds of people swarm the small town to partake in the spirit of the holiday and feel truly Irish. Of all the pubs in this small town, none is better known or more authentic than O’Malley’s. Although it has changed hands several times, it has always been owned and operated by an Irishman. Nowhere else have I ever been that compares with the atmosphere of O’Malley’s. Step off the street and through the pub’s doors and it appears that you’re stepping into a small pub in the heart of Dublin. A fire is always burning in the heath and the walls are lined with a rich dark wood reminiscent of many pubs I have frequented during my trips through the Irish countryside. The beer flows green from the tap and the food is prepared by an authentic Irish chef. During the height of his fame, Mark McGuire would always wear a baseball cap from O’Malley’s during his interviews. He was a fan and could frequently be seen at the pub enjoying a pint and taking in the atmosphere. O’Malley’s celebrates Saint Patrick’s day all weekend with the bar opening from March 14 – 17 at 7 AM. St. Patrick’s Day can be celebrated anywhere. But if you really want to celebrate it like an authentic Irishman, O’Malley’s Pub in Seal Beach California is the only place to be. The Tilted Kilt’s Definitely A Kilt Lifter – Green Beer And Leprechaun’s Never Looked So Good!

Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Tilted KiltAfter going up the street to R.T.O Sullivan’s for their St. Patrick’s Day 2009 bash, I soon realized this place was over crowded and wouldn’t have fun there. My friends and I decided to travel down the road to The Tilted Kilt where I discovered heaven. This place wasn’t so packed that I couldn’t get a beer, but not too slow that I got bored. The Tilted Kilt has an array of draft and bottled beers, including their own Tilted Kilt Signature Draft. In honor of Saint Patrick’s Day, they have tons of green beer. There were plenty of places to stand outside, on the patio, and even found a few bar stools to sit on. The bartenders and servers were excellent that night! (Big tips no doubt). I never waited more than a few minutes at the bar waiting to order another drink. The parking lot has beer trucks, bars, a picnic area, and other various tents set-up. There was even live music which helped with the ambiance. Finding parking was not too terrible. It may take a few trips around the parking lot to find a space, but it is well worth it. There was a short line to get in. The bouncer was really nice! I will definitely be returning to The Tilted Kilt this year to have some more St. Patrick’s Day fun in Mesa. Have fun and remember to be safe! To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.

Come Celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day At Sneakerz Sports Bar & Grill In Albuquerque, NM

Posted by tluke on March 13, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Sneakerz Sports Bar & GrillSneakerz Sports Bar & Grill is by far the best place in Albuquerque for volleyball, drinks, food, karaoke, and fun! The bar offers many forms of entertainment – ping pong, volleyball, arm wrestling, foosball, arcades, darts, air hockey, and shuffle board. The waitresses and bartenders are always pleasant and welcoming to everyone. The diversity of the crowd keeps the excitement going all year long. The bar offers drink specials every day of the week, as well as food specials most days. The food is delicious and the variety of options is huge! I recommend trying one of their amazing (and massive) calzones that are freshly cooked every time! The pizzas and calzones are made from scratch, so it will take longer than most bar food but it is well worth the wait. While you wait on St. Patty’s you could always try an Irish Car Bomb, Black and Tan, or a pint of Guinness. If you feel brave maybe play a game of volleyball or ping pong with one of the regulars. Sneakerz Sports Bar is a great place to catch any sporting event happening or to meet up and just hang out with friends. Attending special events like UFC fights are affordable and really exciting. Salt Hill Pub – A Real Irish Pub In Lebanon, NH

Posted by tluke on March 13, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Salt Hill PubSalt Hill Pub is by far the best destination for St. Patrick’s Day. With traditional Irish music, plenty of refreshments, and a great menu featuring many Irish dishes – you’d be silly not to be there. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of beers on tap – including Guinness of course and the bartenders are very knowledgeable regarding the drinks that they serve. They can even make the clover in the Guinness foam (just ask them to do it – you’ll see what I mean). The music is good on most nights and especially good on St. Patrick’s Day. Get ready though – there will be a large crowd of people there and there will be a lot of people dancing. It is a lot of fun and a great atmosphere. The bands usually play a lot of traditional Irish music and also some more contemporary fun tunes as well. The food is also very good. They have traditional corned beef and hash, dishes with cabbage, and other delicious traditional foods – as well as some more modern American cuisine if that is what you are into (they have excellent chicken wings as well – they go great with beer). I have not seen green beer at this establishment – but I bet they could do it. To find more great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.

Tom Bergin’s Makes Other Los Angeles Bars Green With Envy, Especially On St. Patrick’s Day

Posted by tluke on March 12, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Saint Patrick's Day / No Comments

Tom Bergin's TavernLos Angeles is a big city with thousands of bars and taverns, but it’s no contest where to go on St. Patrick’s Day. Let’s start with Tom Bergin’s Tavern’s credentials. It’s the oldest Irish establishment in Los Angeles, founded in 1936. Since 1949, it has been at its convenient Fairfax location, on the West Side of Los Angeles. There’s nothing like partying on St. Patrick’s Day at Bergin’s. It’s the favorite of all the local radio DJ’s, so they all seem to bring their shows to Bergin’s for remote broadcasts – starting very early in the morning. The enthusiasm and noise are deafening, and the green beer is excellent. In fact, everything is excellent. If its “horseshoe bar” looks familiar, it’s because it was the inspiration for the TV series, “Cheers.” The customers stay as long as “Cheers” do, too. Once people discover Bergin’s hospitality, it’s hard to leave. Whether your preference is beer or Irish Coffee, everything is good and comforting. Actually, a lot of the bartenders have been there for years. If you’ve had enough to drink, there’s the restaurant, too. It’s small, but offers great choices for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I’ve never been to Ireland, but the cathedral ceilings, candles and heaven wooden motif make me feel as if St. Patrick himself is going to appear along with some of his countrymen. I wouldn’t blame him. The Gaelic Beef is worth traveling across town or a continent or two. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
