Madhatters Tea House and Café is a quaint little restaurant long beloved by San Antonio residents. It’s nestled in the middle of Southtown, the arts district of San Antonio, near the famous Rosario’s Mexican restaurant. Madhatters specializes in light drinks, whether it’s teatime or any time of the day. And they have a truly staggering assortment of teas to choose from – nearly 30 different varieties are on-hand to go along with your meal. Whether you love an exotic rooibos red tea or just a classic Earl Grey, Madhatters has got a cup meant for you. Madhatters doesn’t just have drinks, though – they also have a great selection of homemade soups and sandwiches. They also have an assortment of temptingly decadent desserts, which you can buy by the slice or as a complete pie or cake if you’ve had a bad day. Madhatters also features a Mimosa brunch on Sundays, where they sell $13 all you can drink “fishbowl” mimosas (designated driver not included.) Madhatters has a gallery space that features a rotating lineup of San Antonio artists, and on the first Friday of the month, they host live acoustic shows in the café. Madhatters Tea House and Café is open 8am-9pm Monday through Saturday, and 9am to 3pm on Sunday. Visit globalYP.net to find local business listings online.

Beans in the Belfry in Brunswick, MD is one of the most unique establishments I have had the pleasure of frequenting. The first impression is the unusual setting – a historic church in downtown Brunswick! With stained-glass windows and a balcony in place, Beans in the Belfry is a lovely place to explore while having a bite to eat or visiting with friends over tea. The café is set up casually, with an assortment of comfortable couches, chairs, and benches to suit any visitor. Books abound and wireless Internet is available for those wishing to do work or networking in a relaxed environment. On most nights of the week, there is live music from local and traveling bands of all sorts. Most of the regular musician’s tunes are available on CDs that are sold in the café. It is especially fun to watch the music and occasional dancing from up in the balcony! Children are always delighted to enjoy music and to play with games and dress-up clothes found throughout the place. The most important part of all –food and drinks – leave nothing to be desired! Everything is homemade, from sandwiches to desserts to drinks to homemade chili. The menu includes a variety of soups, salads, and sandwiches as well as many different teas, coffees, and specialty drinks. The desserts are scrumptious and usually include such selections as berry pies, brownies, and cheesecakes. Prices are refreshingly affordable for such wonderful food, setting, and company. I always recommend Beans in the Belfry as my favorite place to eat whenever friends and family visit. It is a one-of-kind place that is an absolute must-see. When I walked through the doors of Lowman’s Café in Smithville, MO, I thought that I was somehow transported back into the 1970’s. The tables, chairs and interior all reminded me of going out to dinner with grandpa. I sat down at an old booth and was approached by a very nice waitress who brought out a small glass of water and one of those old school menus. I scanned through and decided that if I was going to feel like I was in the 1970’s, might as well eat like it. So I went for the burger and fries with a cola. My order was taken and served, freshly cooked in a timely fashion. After the first bite, I felt like I was with grandpa at the local diner. The burger was good, the fries were ten times better than any fast food restaurant and the service was friendly. As I went to pay, the waitress told me that the next night was Rocky Mountain Oyster night. I was a little taken back. I didn’t realize those were actually served in a restaurant. Lowman’s is a quality old school restaurant that will bring about some nostalgic feelings! For more classic restaurants like this, visit globalYP.net, an online directory.
Forget Ben & Jerry’s, forget Haagen-Dazs…Queen City Creamery in Cumberland, Maryland has the best ice cream you will ever taste! I say “ice cream”, but technically, it’s frozen custard. The difference is the addition of egg yolks, which give frozen custard a smoother and creamier taste than plain old ice cream. In addition to the regular flavors of chocolate and vanilla, which are served every day, Queen City Creamery also serves a different featured flavor every day. To name just a few of the flavors that you might find, there’s: Pistachio, Blueberry Muffin, Chocolate, M&M, White House Cherry, Dreamsicle …and my personal favorite, Take 5 (tastes just like the candy bar!) You can have those flavors served in a cup or on a homemade waffle cone, or in a variety of sundaes with just about any topping you can think of. You can also have them made into a milkshake, or packed as pints or quarts for you to take home! Although the frozen custard is definitely the star of the show, Queen City Creamery is more than just dessert. They also feature a full menu of breakfast options, and deli soups and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. And all day long, they serve all the coffee drinks you could want – cappuccinos, lattes, espressos and more. All this, in the beautiful setting of historic downtown Cumberland! Just steps from the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad, and right off Interstate 68… you won’t regret visiting Queen City Creamery! The Fork & Spoon was quite a surprise as far as the quality and price. Despite the recommendations from friends, I was very skeptical as I drove up to the strip mall and saw a little restaurant tucked in the corner next to a fitness center, but I figured I would give it a chance. As advised, I ordered the Spinach and Artichoke dip and was blown away by the amount of flavor in this delectable appetizer. I would recommend anyone who has enjoyed any sort of this dip to give it a try here. After enjoying our appetizer I was gaining a little more confidence in their ability, so I chose to make my main entree a half soup half sandwich. I chose the tomato basil soup and a turkey club sandwich. When my soup was brought out, I was impressed with the presentation as they gave one little cornbread muffin with a strip of corn husk through it. When I asked why they would do this the server told me it was how they pulled them out of the tray when they were cooked! It’s always nice to know my food is prepared fresh and not mass produced like many other restaurants. The food was amazing and I really came to enjoy the quiet environment with a very competitive price. Enjoy finding more new places with globalYP.net, yellow pages that are online.
Austin Java Company has been a long-time breakfast and brunch hideaway for residents in the Barton Springs section of Austin. AJC offers an extensive, scrumptious menu full of pancakes, breakfast burritos, omelets, and other down-home Southern breakfast options. My favorite is the massive three-egg omelet, served with a tasty mash of black beans and cheese on the side. If you don’t feel like breakfast, AJC has an overflowing pastry case, stuffed to the brim with homemade cakes, cookies, and biscotti. If the white layer cake is available the day you visit, snag it! Austin Java Company offers indoor and outdoor eating. The patio is lovely, with oversized umbrellas and a functional fountain. Dogs are welcome on the patio, but only service animals are allowed inside. Austin Java Company has its own signature line of coffee, and they rotate a choice of mild, bold, and decaf coffee daily. AJC also offers an Around the World Coffee club, where java aficionados can have a rotating blend of coffee from various growing regions shipped straight to their house each month. Austin Java Company is open 7am-10pm Monday through Friday, and 8am to 10pm on Saturday and Sunday. Parking is limited, but there is a free shuttle to a parking lot further down the street. You never know what might be just down the street from you. Explore your neighborhood with globalYP.net, yellow pages that are online.
Coffee Depot in historic Downtown Riverside is regarded by many local citizens and college students as a true gem to the community. The coffee house has a rich history and has an appropriate name because the large building used to be used as a train depot for luggage during the early 1900s and although the building has naturally been restored, it is still very authentic and has a very traditional, depot type aura to it. The building itself is truly one of the largest coffee houses I have ever been to or heard of and is even two stories. There is a main room, a lounge/library, and another large room which functions as a sitting area and a room for performances and various events. Coffee Depot also has events such as Swing Dancing and Poetry Readings going on nearly every day of the week. Also, you can’t forget the great coffee! Coffee Depot really has a true, non commercialized taste in their coffee with a large menu with both coffee drinks and breakfast/ lunch foods similar to those of a café offering sandwiches and yogurt parfaits. The people behind the counter are also very friendly and always chatting up customers. The coffee shop is almost always full of people but it never really feels crowded because of the vast amount of seating. Coffee Depot is truly an amazing coffee house and I would highly recommend it for anyone to visit. GlobalYP.net is truly a great place to find local business listings online.
I’ve wined and dined at several fancy, high-class restaurants across the Midwest. However, none of these restaurants seem to even compare to the quality of Sandra D’s Garden Cafe. Located at 1330 S Main St, Auburn, IN and owned by Sandra and Benttey Dillinger(chef), they take pride in the excellent Italian cuisine accommodated by their wonderful service. My favorite dish from this secluded restaurant is the Ziti al Forno, with 3 freshly baked cheeses combined with a delicious marinara sauce. Alongside this meal I had an order of warm breadsticks and a salad with the most magnificent dressing: Peppercorn Parmesan. For dessert, there is a quite a selection, but I recommend the Teardrop. This pastry is made with seasonal flavors such as apple, cherry, peach, and pecan. This restaurant also serves breakfast (on weekends) and lunches which are superb. The dinner menu, however, has the largest variety of Italian cookery ranging from crusted tilapia to pastas to fresh homemade chicken salads. The best part of all is the price. Dining for two costs a mere 40 dollars with appetizers, salads, drinks, breadsticks and the meal. If you’re planning on visiting this first-rate Italian restaurant, be sure to call ahead and make reservations for one of the 10 dining tables it has. With wonderful owners serving incredible food, this garden café makes for a perfect local establishment! To find other great places in your area, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
Busy Café in Riverside, CA is a fairly new restaurant but is starting to gain popularity among local residents. This restaurant is located in the University Village shopping center at 223 University Ave and has a large menu of entrees, including unique items and typical Asian entrees. Their prices are reasonable and are slightly on the higher scale compared to local restaurants in the same shopping center, but the food is all freshly prepared when you order it and there is a large quantity, which I think makes up for the slightly higher price range. There is also a daily special in which you can choose a smaller sized entrée, soup and steamed rice, for those who do not want to spend too much. The soups here are probably my favorite and a steal for only $1.95 a bowl! Although the restaurant offers both in dining and to-go, I highly recommend eating in the restaurant simply because it allows you to eat the food right as it comes off the stove. The service here is also very good and they usually offer you free refills on all drinks, including hot teas (which surprised me because I have usually been charged for these refills at other places). The only negative I feel is that Busy Café does close slightly early at 10 pm, for being so close to a large university. Other than this I feel Busy Café will be a great hit once its name gets out! Looking for some good food that beats the price of most the local restaurants in downtown Charleston, South Carolina? Jack’s Café is the place. Open for breakfast and lunch (7am-3pm Mon-Fri), Jack’s offers an array of classic breakfast and lunch Items. My favorite?—eggs with minced ham and some good ole fashioned grits. Jack’s gives you breakfast all day as well, good for the dreary college student stumbling out of bed at the crack of 2pm. If its lunch you crave, Jack has everything from burgers to a roast beef sub with au jus. The food is fast and good. Friendly, and local, the waiters/waitresses take your order and serve it to you kindly, in an informal and inviting atmosphere. You can even catch the chance to have a friendly word with Jack, himself, who is usually found behind the counter tending to all the customer’s orders. Jack’s does not hurt your wallet either. Affordable breakfast and lunch items are all under ten bucks. Altogether, after you add you sweet tea and tip, you rarely go over the ten dollar barrier—easily the most affordable place to chill out and grab some grub in the downtown area. With quality, service, and price all amazing at this café, you’ll be back soon afterward to get your Jack’s fix.
