I am a huge fan of video games, but I have had bad experiences at many of the large video game chains. Thankfully, my experience has been nothing but great at Video Games Etc. I am thrilled to have such a great local games store to do my shopping at. Video Games Etc has an excellent selection of new games. I’m almost always able to find what I’m looking for. They have an especially great selection of 360 games, which is perfect for me as that’s the console I own. They also carry many older games as well, and I’ve been able to find some rare gems there on more than one occasion. The prices are always very reasonable. Sometimes games are a few dollars more than they are at some of the chain stores, but I don’t mind paying a little more to support a business that I like. I have also found some very good deals on games there, especially used ones. Newer used games are often much cheaper there then at big name stores. Video Games Etc also offers a few other things of interest to me. They have a huge selection of used movies, and they also carry old comic books. It’s a lot of fun to browse through these things to see what I can find. The owner is very friendly and never pressures you to hurry and make a purchase while you look at all the shop has to offer. I’d definitely recommend Video Games Etc to any gamers in Western Massachusetts. If you’re not a fan of video games, I recommend checking out the used movie selection. Third Planet Comics is a comic shop located in the southern part of Houston, TX. The building is an interesting shade of light blue. Parking is located at the rear of the establishment. I have not really ever had a problem with overcrowding, so this is always a plus in my opinion. Once you walk into the store, you are always greeted by one of the helpful employees. This is one of Third Planet’s strong points- employees. This business’s employees are friendly and helpful. I have never encountered rude or pushy staff members. They are knowledgeable without being obnoxious. The atmosphere of Third Planet is laid back. I enjoy shopping here. There is a nice selection of merchandise, as well. From action figures to comics, you can indulge your sci-fi craving without logging on to a website and having to wait for the mailman. The prices are very reasonable. The comics are arranged nicely, rather than stashed away in some dark dusty room. I have managed to snag a few great issues of some comics I have been eyeing for a while. They accept the universal currency of cash and also the ever-popular plastic credit cards. If you are ever in Houston, stop on by. You will definitely be happy you did! Turbo Toast Comics is probably the best place in Columbia, Tennessee, to go to find just about any collectible. They have hundreds of comic books to pick from at any given time, many that are no longer in print and worth at least the price tag that Turbo Toast puts on them. If you enjoy reading the classic comics, or want to trade in some of your own for a little cash or credit, check this place out. In addition to their overwhelming collection of recreational literature, Turbo Toast Comics also has hundreds of collectible action figures, models, and display pieces that you will have a hard time finding anywhere else, including websites like eBay and Amazon. Classic Star Wars pieces, Gundam models from every series, old-edition Marvel action figures, and star ships from the Star Trek Universe will give any hard-core collector a giddy feeling. If that isn’t enough for you, they have dozens of DVD collections for various Anime and American cartoon series. There is very little in regards to comic books, American cartoons, Anime, fantasy, and science fiction that you won’t be able to find at Turbo Toast Comics. I give them four stars out of five. Knoxville, Tennessee’s newest (and best) gaming store is one of the best I have ever been in. Organized Play at 221 Cumberland Ave, is owned by a very nice man named Morgan, has altogether the best playing atmosphere in the area. I go in every Friday for FNM, or Friday Night Magic, a tournament of the Wizard’s of the Coast game Magic the Gathering. Morgan knows all the players by name, and he is always friendly and asks how our weeks have gone. It’s a great place, with a real old-city kind of appeal to it, and it is set up perfectly for tournaments and free play. And the stock that Morgan keeps is astounding! There are always new games, comics, and mangas coming in, and usually someone there who is up for a round with the new games. Organized Play even has its own live-in mascot! Preston, the shop cat and undisputed boss of the store, is always hanging around to climb into whatever lap presents itself, or to chase whatever dice may be out on the tables (whether they are in play or not). All in all I have to say that I will not be going to any other stores in the area, because the competition just doesn’t have Morgan’s concern for his customers, the atmosphere that he has striven to achieve, or to be brutally honest – his great prices! It’s hard to find a good local comic shop these days. It seems like more and more comic retailers are going out of business. As a huge fan of comics, I find this very disappointing. Luckily, Main Vein Comics continues to be a great place to purchase comic books in western Massachusetts. Main Vein Comics may be a small store, but they still have a great selection. In addition to the latest DC comics and Marvel comics, they have a very good selection of horror comics and other interesting comics. I am frequently introduced to new comics while browsing their wall. They also have a lot of trade paperbacks and comic toys and merchandise. The only person I have ever seen working there is the owner, and he is wonderful. He is clearly such a fan of comics and so knowledgeable about them. He seems happy to talk to customers in his shop and introduce them to new comic books. I really like the idea that I’m supporting his store. Domy Books in Houston, TX is an eccentric gem in the heart of the city. This little book nook boasts a surprisingly fascinating collection of literature. Their selection mainly caters to an interest in art and modern street culture, among other things. When you walk into the shop, you’ll be greeted by a wall of a currently featured local artist along with recent subscriptions of print magazines. The setup is very lo-fi artsy, if I can describe it that way, but it is an aesthetically pleasing simplicity that draws you in. From zipper pulls to wind up toys, these trinkets make great unique gifts for any friend! Around the corner and you’ll find their selection of literature. The inventory is updated regularly, so it’s almost a new store each time you visit. Spend some time flipping through high quality photo collections and take a look at the comic books. You’ll be surprised at how fast time goes by while exploring this tiny little store. I enjoy checking out the local “zines” on the rack near the checkout counter. There you’ll find multiple print magazines by the creative minds of local Houstonians. It’s a fun place to visit and unlike any other bookstore you’ll find.
