From the atmosphere to the service, to the little ones running around, you can tell they really care about family! It is the best place in the area! Christmas in New York City is absolutely gorgeous, and Victor’s Café on West 52nd Street in Manhattan, NYC,  is one of my  favorite restaurants in the city to visit during the season. It is located in midtown in the middle of the theatre district so I would definitely suggest making reservations. If you don’t, you’re almost sure to be waiting in the bar for a table if you are there during pre-theatre hours (roughly 6:30-8:00). They have live entertainment on certain night; live entertainment can be both an asset and a liability to your dining experience depending on your preference. That said, the dining room is bright and tropical. I suggest you start off with a pitcher of champagne sangria. It’s expensive, but a definite treat. The sampler appetizer is a great way give your table a taste of everything. The menu has every type of authentic Cuban dish you could think of. I suggest the traditional Ropa Vieja. They serve classical Cuban food and fusion Cuban, like Filet Mignon Criollo or Paella with Maine lobster, a subtle twist. Their dessert menu is quiet large with options such as churros, flan or for the less adventurous ice cream and a chocolate lava cake. This place is great during the Holidays or any time of the year. I saw saw a lonely trailer out in the field one day at the corner of S Lamar Blvd & Collier St in Austin, TX called Texas Cuban. I’ve always loved Cuban food, so I thought I’d try it out. I got an El Cubano, their flagship sandwich. It took a while (almost 10 minutes) for them to make, but the wait was well worth it. The sandwich was simple, yet the flavor complex and satisfying. It consisted of garlic, pickles, ham, pork tenderloin, provolone, and Swiss cheese. The balance between the ingredients is perfect, and the cilantro mustard dipping sauce is to die for. It came with a side of plantain chips. I chose mariquitas, which were thinly sliced, fried to a crisp, and salted. They are good, but they make 2 other types which I have yet to try and would like to. The people there are always friendly, the patrons usually end up talking to each other even if they were strangers before. I definitely recommend this South Austin food trailer and hang out. P.S if you’re a vegetarian you should still go, they have a wonderful vegetarian menu. Located in an unassuming house turned restaurant in Orlando, FL, Cindy’s Tropical Café provides a delicious and inexpensive Cuban dining experience. Cindy’s offers daily lunch specials (about $5) with portions so large, you’ll need a doggy bag. The restaurant gets packed at lunch time, so be sure to call your order in or be prepared to spend some time sitting in the modest dining room. The food offered ranges from rice and beans, Cuban sandwiches, and shredded pork to exotic sodas and fruit juices. I always order rice with black beans and chicken with extra onions. It sounds so simplistic yet is amazing! Each bite leaves you craving the next. The food is seasoned perfectly; you won’t be reaching for the salt shaker here! I always suggest Cindy’s when my friends and I are looking for a cheap bite that doesn’t get ordered through a car window. The best part about taking friends is being able to try out all the foods I wouldn’t normally order for myself. The shredded pork seems to melt in your mouth and the sandwiches are perfect. Lastly, the staff is always incredibly nice. So often, you walk into a restaurant and feel like you’re interrupting the staff and like you’re business isn’t needed. That’s not the case here. Even when the café is busy, you’ll be acknowledged when you enter. When you order, it isn’t like talking to a robot; any questions you have about the menu are answered and your special requests (extra onions, extra spicy, no peppers, etc) are always respected. If a mistake is made, they are quick to apologize and fix the issue. La Fonda Latina is a little slice of heaven. It starts with the salsa – always fresh, always the perfect consistency, always the perfect level of spice, always touched with that delicate yet forceful undertone of cilantro. The delicate mix of fresh flavors in the salsa is an indicator of the overall quality of the food at La Fonda Latina, which offers wonderful Cuban food at unbelievably good prices, all in a pleasant, festive atmosphere. Favorite entrees of mine include the various paellas. The Paella del Mar is especially good – huge portions, a great mix of flavors, and fresh, delicately seasoned seafood. The sandwiches are incredible, too. The Bocadillo Latino is something to behold: tender pork with black beans, rice, cheese, and a touch of mustard. The Bocadillo con Bistec, which substitutes steak for pork, is also worth writing home about. Non-Cuban specialties are worth a try, as well. They do quesadillas here about as well as they do them anywhere – overstuffed and abundantly flavored. Their enchiladas are actually really good, too, though it’s tough for me to justify passing up the Cuban fare for something so relatively common. Finish off the meal with a caramel empanada, and you won’t be disappointed. La Fonda is a terrific place for a casual, comfortable meal with friends. Las Palmas Cuban Restaurant (at 4870 Babcock St) in Palm Bay, FL is awesome. My husband and I happened on this restaurant while out and about one day and enjoyed a wonderful lunch there. We have since been back several times with and without our children. It is family friendly and the wait staff is beyond delightful. I grew up in Miami and am used to eating tasty Cuban food, so I was more than excited to find this place. My kids love it too and the prices are definitely reasonable, with great lunch and sandwich specials The service is also quick. We have been waited on by several of their waitresses and they are always pleasant and friendly. The restaurant is small and has a very at home feel. Everyone who works there greets you and makes you feel at home! My favorites are the Cuban pork sandwich and the tostones, but they also have excellent pastelitos. The portions are also extremely generous. Recently I could not finish my lunch while there, so I took it home and heated it up for dinner and it was just as good the second time around. They also do carry-out orders, so it’s convenient if you need your Cuban fix. If you are in the mood for Cuban food this is a place I very highly recommend. El Diablo Coffee in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, WA, is a fun and relaxing place to get a cup of coffee and a snack, hang out, and watch the world go by. The café is conveniently next door to the great Queen Anne Books, so you can easily pick up some reading material and have a relaxing hour or so. In short, with its unique décor and menu, El Diablo could not be farther from a corporate coffee chain, and is well worth a visit!
