Casa Nuova Italian Restaurant is tucked away on the north side of Alpharetta, GA. I have been going to Casa Nuova for the last three years and cannot get enough of the food and hospitality. They have your standard Italian restaurant menu items, like spaghetti, chicken parmesan and lasagna. They also offer real Italian items, with clams as well as fish. These items should not be considered standard because they are made with locally grown vegetables and are seasoned perfectly. You also get more food then you can handle. After hearing the daily specials, they bring you some of the best garlic and butter toast. There are normally three to five daily specials, which are made fresh like everything else in the kitchen. Most entrees come with a salad or soup, which I definitely recommend. The salad is made with fresh lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and a great house dressing. The soups change daily, but they normally have minestrone, which is also very good. I have had multiple items off of the menu and have not been disappointed yet. My favorite is definitely the lasagna, which is made with seasoned beef, ricotta cheese, flat noodles, a great tomato based sauce and mozzarella on top. It is served out of the oven in a metal dish and you cannot wait long enough to let it cool down before taking a bite. The meal is topped off with a fresh cappuccino or espresso. The servers are great and you normally get a visit from the owner herself to make sure your meal was great! Kookoo Cafe is not an average coffee shop. It does more than beat the tired, contrived cheeriness of Starbucks and the stale, bitter coffee at Dunkie’s or halve the prices of more upscale coffeehouses on Newbury Street and those littering the North End. Kookoo creates a peaceful and relaxed Scandinavian or perhaps Alpine atmosphere that the Boston area seriously lacks. From the wood paneled walls and hardwood floors, to the friendly faces of the servers, it is hard to believe that this is not a portal to some time long past or a land far away from the bustle of Brookline Village; stepping through the doorway truly feels like a warm invitation to a relative’s home in the mountains of Europe. As great as the service is, the coffee is even better. Kookoo offers a full menu of espresso bar drinks as well as light and dark roasts and even a decaf option. Brewed in small batches and always tasting fresh, the drinks are never more bitter than a perfect cup should be, and the smell of it alone is intoxicating. A full menu of teas ranging from greens to blacks to reds and a variety of herbals rounds out the hot beverage menu. In addition, Kookoo serves cafe fare in a variety of lunch items: delicious soups, salads, and sandwiches served all day long with fresh breads and ingredients. For dessert, there is even an entire case of tasty in-house pastries for some of the lowest prices in the city. The most incredible thing about this place, though, is the patronage. Forget the snobs hoarding tables with sprawling laptops and electronics at Au Bon Pain or the peppering of Cambridge cafes, the majority of customers at Kookoo are small and charming Brookline families stopping by for a glass of milk and a brownie after school. Unbelievably this is a largely unheard of gem only frequented by the immediate locals. For a phenomenal cup of coffee or a light lunch, ride the D an extra couple of stops to Brookline Village for an amazing experience. But give yourself some extra time, you may not want to leave! Cappuccino Junction has to be one of the best coffee places I have been to in the Junction City area. They are so friendly! They have plenty of drinks to choose from and will gladly make you a custom drink of your choice. They carry some unique flavors such as bubblegum! They are a very small company and always go the extra mile to make their customers happy. The service is always very fast. The prices are also very affordable compared to other coffee places. They have two drive-through windows, one on each side, for the people on the go. During a nice day, they have a wonderful patio you can sit on and enjoy your coffee. You will not just find coffee here, you can also find delicious smoothies! They also sell brownies, scones and muffins. They are delicious! Their coffee and espresso never has that old taste to it. You will never doubt that it has been made fresh! If you enjoy espresso I would highly recommend the grasshopper or the caramel caress. The grasshopper is sort of a chocolate mint while the caramel caress is caramel and cinnamon. Both are FANTASTIC drinks! Try out Cappuccino Junction, you will not be disappointed! Amid the hustle and bustle of Yakima, WA, The Market Place Deli holds its own in an area quickly being overrun with tasting rooms. Stop by in the morning for a Breakfast Bagel and a Chai Latte then come back later for lunch. With Daily Specials that pair up great sandwiches with excellent soups or a variety of salads, there is a deal here for everyone. My own favorite is the Café Special: Roast Beef, Swiss & Avocado (on wheat for me) with a side of fruit and a Mocha Big Train or a Mango Jet Tea. On a cold day, the chowder sure does hit the spot though! Or ask for your sandwich toasted, nothing beats melted provolone with turkey and bacon when there is snow on the ground. If you’re not in the mood for a sandwich, try the quiche, salads, bagels or just go for it and dig into the pastries and cookies. The Cheese Pockets are too good to be true. With a full service espresso counter, The Market Place Deli gives people shopping, working or just visiting in Downtown Yakima a great place to sit down and have a coffee break. Need local delivery or catering? Yes, they can do that, too, and at a reasonable price. Next time you are visiting the Farmer’s Market or the Capitol Theater, take a few steps around the corner and find a great lunch spot with lots of extras. We first started going to Common Ground Coffee & Cupcakes when it opened two years ago. When we saw the sign go up that a cupcake place was opening in our town, we eagerly awaited their grand opening. We were not disappointed. Common Ground has everything I look for in a coffee shop, whether I am looking for a cozy coffee shop that offers free Wi-Fi or a place for me and my children to hang out. The owners really have thought of everything. Their leather chairs are comfy, their children’s play area has toys and rocking horses (they currently have 3!) and children’s books that they check out from the library. They also have a collection of books for adults that you can read there or purchase for $1.00. The shop is large enough that you can sit at a table and be far enough away from the kids on the rocking horses so you can get your work done. Now, let’s talk cupcakes. They make their own cupcakes and you can see them baking batches and icing them throughout the day. In addition to the regular-sized cupcakes, they also have minis that you can purchase. I have found that these are the perfect size for my three year old. Their cupcakes are always covered with a thick layer of icing made from butter cream. I’m not normally a fan of frosting because I find it’s too sweet, but theirs has the perfect amount of sweetness. They have some seasonal cupcakes that they rotate throughout the year. Their current seasonal cupcake is their Campfire cupcake which is a chocolate cupcake with marshmallow frosting and crushed graham crackers on top. Common Ground is the friendly sort of place where they like to talk to their customers and get to know them. I recently went back after a long absence and the owner remembered that I recently had a son. They are more than just coffee and a cupcake, they are part of our growing community. SiJambo Café in Windom, Minnesota makes the best espresso ever! This is saying a lot considering I am a coffee snob from Seattle, WA. My husband is from a small town next to Windom and every time that we would visit, I’d be super bummed that there was no such thing as espresso in the vicinity. Much to my surprise, SiJambo opened up in Windom and now we drive 15 minutes to get there every day that we spend in Minnesota! The owners, Trenton and Mellissa, definitely know their coffee and they spend the extra money in order to get a premium espresso blend. I also find that their drinks are well priced and cheaper than the same product at Starbucks. If you aren’t a huge coffee drinker, then you should stop by for one of the amazing fruit smoothies or the awesome food. They have a great menu with several sandwiches, soups and a full salad bar. The ambiance is nice and there is a lot of room to sit at the tables or lounge on the couches. They also have a big screen TV where they host Monday Night Football with cheap food available. Another big perk—free wireless internet! If you are ever in the area, then please do yourself a favor and stop by SiJambo! If you’re tired of relying on an old fashioned phone book to find businesses, do yourself a favor and stop by globalYP.net, a searchable online directory.
