My wife and I had heard nothing but good things about Henri’s in Longview, so last year we decided to give them a shot on Valentine’s Day. I called about a month in advance and made reservations for one of their private booths. I figured because it was Valentine’s Day that the place would be swamped but I was pleasantly surprised to see that they had everything under control by providing plenty of staff. There’s nothing worse than having to wait 45 minutes for your meal on Valentine’s Day. The first thing I noticed when we were taken to our seats was the wonderful atmosphere. The lights were dimmed, candles lit and the tables sprinkled with real rose pedals. It was definitely a great first impression! I ordered the Chicken and my wife ordered the Roast Duck. They were both absolutely delicious. The meat was tender, the vegetables warm and buttery and the mashed potatoes were just like Grandma had made them. Not to mention the free cheesy garlic bread they serve you while you wait for your meal! I could load up on that stuff all night long! I have since been back to Henri’s two times and both were a blast. They have a very friendly and outgoing staff and besides having a great restaurant to take your wife, they also have a bar to hang out with your friends with live music from time to time. Little Italy in Tyler, TX is a fantastic little family owned restaurant. Texas isn’t always known for their Italian, but you would never known once you try Little Italy. You can either eat-in or call to pick it up to go. The atmosphere is warm and very casual. The staff is always ready for us with a pleasant hello. It can get pretty busy for lunch on weekdays but it is well worth the wait. The food is authentic Italian with the BEST made-from-scratch Alfredo sauce in town. The prices are more than reasonable for the quality of food we get. It is a smaller family-style restaurant with no fancy trappings to get in the way. It’s a little worn down (as all family owned restaurants usually are) but the coziness of the place and plenty of great food make up for it. There’s even a little name plate for one of the tables that sits next to the windows and it commemorates the engagement of a local couple. Unlike a lot of local restaurants, we always see the owner working hard – it’s always reassuring when the owner is working at their business. We’re turning in to one of their most loyal customers! I’ve never once had a bad or mediocre meal there and will look forward to giving them my business in the future. This year, my husband and I discovered sushi. At first bite, we both fell in love with it. We have been spending the last year working our way around the Toledo, Ohio area trying out all the sushi restaurants. By far, Sori Sushi is the best we can find. The staple sushi roll, the Spicy Tuna Roll, is better than anywhere else I have ever tries. The tuna taste so fresh, and is rolled with the rice and nori perfectly. They have a large selection of rolls, and many specialty ones. Their signature roll, the Sori Roll, has just about everything you can think of in it. The prices at Sori are very reasonable, which makes it easier for my husband and I to visit often, and believe me, we do!
