Value Village is a thrift store in the southwestern part of Houston, TX. I had passed by several times before, always noticing a crowd of cars in the parking lot and I decided to stop in one day. The store is divided into sections. Their strong suit is clothing, and lots of it. The benefit of this thrift store is its organization. The clothing is categorized by type, color, and then size. This makes it easy to see what you want when shopping. I was able to throw together a Halloween costume for five bucks last year. The clothing is not full of holes or dingy. This is a definite plus for me. The store also has plenty of house wares. Picture frames in various finishes, styles and sizes, all at a great price. I snagged a 24×36 frame for only $6. If I went to a typical frame shop, it could have cost up to $50. I can pick up great framed artwork all for under $15. If I don’t care for the picture, the price is still worth it for the frame itself. I also love their stash of books. My kids have found virtually brand new books from popular authors like Dr. Seuss for only .50 cents to $1. If you have never visited this store, you should. You may have to hunt, but therein lies the adventure of thrift shopping. With this store, there is usually something that will pique your interest. Apple of Your Eyes Optical, located in Mamaroneck, NY is one of the best optical stores around. Sure you can go and spend twenty dollars at your local Costco or Pearl Vision and buy a pair of glasses. But these are very poor in their quality and durability. Apple of Your Eyes offers the best designer glasses with the best prescription lenses out there. The owner, who is also a certified optician, has been in business for over fourteen years. She has built up a massive, loyal cliental that has bought from her every time they needed new lenses. I went in there for three pairs of glasses, one pair of regular glasses, a pair of sunglasses, and a pair of transition lenses to put in a sunglass frame. I love Oakleys and she is a certified Oakley dealer, so I picked out two different frames. I picked out two of the same sunglasses frames and a different pair for regular glasses. Oakley has special lenses so she had to order them as well. I got my glasses cut and delivered to me within five days, which is amazing turnaround time for any service type business. She was very professional and the prices are very reasonable. I recommend you go see her for your next pair of glasses. She is very flexible and has glasses and lenses that range from very cheap to expensive (but the best). GlobalYP.net has tons of local listings online.
