There’s Nothing Better For Gamers In Knoxville, TN Than Organized Play

http://www.flickr.com/photos/magoexperto/2837151515/Knoxville, Tennessee’s newest (and best) gaming store is one of the best I have ever been in. Organized Play at 221 Cumberland Ave, is owned by a very nice man named Morgan, has altogether the best playing atmosphere in the area. I go in every Friday for FNM, or Friday Night Magic, a tournament of the Wizard’s of the Coast game Magic the Gathering. Morgan knows all the players by name, and he is always friendly and asks how our weeks have gone. It’s a great place, with a real old-city kind of appeal to it, and it is set up perfectly for tournaments and free play. And the stock that Morgan keeps is astounding! There are always new games, comics, and mangas coming in, and usually someone there who is up for a round with the new games. Organized Play even has its own live-in mascot! Preston, the shop cat and undisputed boss of the store, is always hanging around to climb into whatever lap presents itself, or to chase whatever dice may be out on the tables (whether they are in play or not). All in all I have to say that I will not be going to any other stores in the area, because the competition just doesn’t have Morgan’s concern for his customers, the atmosphere that he has striven to achieve, or to be brutally honest – his great prices! GlobalYP.net has local business listings available online.

Try Nixon’s Deli For Lunch In Knoxville, TN

http://www.flickr.com/photos/dongkwan/511900155/Nixon’s Deli in Knoxville, TN is one of the best places I have eaten for awhile! Their signature steamed subs are delicious, and always made fresh, right in front of you. You get to choose what kind of sub you want, and then you can customize it with whatever yummy toppings and cheese you want. Then they steam it lightly, so it gets all melted and the flavors just soak through the whole sandwich. I love it! I used to go to McDonald’s or Wendy’s for lunch every day, but now I couldn’t think of going anywhere but Nixon’s. I’ve even gotten the rest of my coworkers hooked, and now it’s an office routine. We send someone (usually me) to Nixon’s with our orders every day, and they never let us down. And the staff is so friendly, it’s like you are part of their family. Even if you’ve only been there once they greet you like an old friend every time you walk through that door, and they always have a treat if you bring in your little ones. So all in all, I would enthusiastically recommend Nixon’s to anyone, especially busy interns on a tight budget! Budget your time better and find online local listings quickly and easily with globalYP.net.

KARM Thrift Store: Buy Something Great And Help The Homeless In Powell, TN

Posted by Keri W. on November 05, 2009

karKARM Thrift Stores are not your average thrift store. They are amazingly different than anything I have experienced in my extensive history of second-hand shopping. The stores are all clean, well lit, and extremely well organized. Clothing is organized by men’s, women’s and children’s, and then further organized by style, color and size. The quality is outstanding. They must take the cream off the top of their donations and pass on all items they consider sub-standard. It’s not just clothing. It’s furniture, home furnishing accessories, pictures, lamps, mirrors, linens, dishware, table ware, knick-knacks, office supplies, computers, appliances, microwaves, books, magazines, albums, CDs, jewelry, handbags, seasonal (Christmas!) – the list goes on. The layout of the stores allows you to move around easily – no crowded aisles here. And no stacks! Everything is displayed in a professional and appropriate manner, easy for the viewing, and tempting to the buyer. And the employees! Wow! They greet you warmly as you walk in the door. And there is always an employee available on the floor to assist you with any questions. Retail chains could take a lesson. The best part – all proceeds go directly to assisting getting the homeless off the streets. KARM is a tremendously successful organization responsible for helping countless families in the Knoxville, TN area overcome their obstacles and re-establish themselves with jobs and homes. KARM doesn’t just feed the homeless; KARM goes the next step and the next step and the next to assist individual’s reintegration into working society. An English Pub In Knoxville, TN? The Crown & Goose

Posted by Keri W. on August 30, 2009
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

crown_and_gooseThe Crown and Goose, an English Pub in Knoxville, TN (at 123 South Central St), sits with its main doors open inviting city-goes in off the street for a frosty beer or traditional English fare on hot summer days. The serving staff is professional and warm, and the clientele seem to be Englishmen who have found themselves inexplicably in America, seeking the solace of a slice of the UK by patronizing the bar. Affluent Knoxvillians join the European crowd and quite a few soccer enthusiasts can be seen inside at any given time. The atmosphere was loud the last time I was there, but not usually; they were piping soccer via satellite and stream of occasional cheers or jeers from the crowd could be heard from the patrons with their eyes hanging on the exploits of the Manchester team (they were playing Chelsea, so at times it got pretty loud). Once the game was over, though, the volume returned to a polite rumble. The décor makes one feel at once among friends with underpinning of a fine dining establishment. The Goose has, of course, a full bar with your favorite liquors and a decent variety of good beer. The usual line-up of America’s standard pilseners take their place among pull tabs with a few curious but lesser known names. Being an English pub, Guiness is of course available, as well as Boddington’s Honey Brown and few other British ales. Overall, this is a good place to hang out and grab a drink.
