Brown Bear Burgers

If you plan on visiting the community of Pentwater, Michigan make sure you stop by the Brown Bear Restaurant for a bite to eat – you’ll be glad you did. The restaurant features a rustic wood interior with old-fashioned elegance. You can dine downstairs where there is a bar; or upstairs area that offers a beautiful view of the Pentwater Park. The Brown Bear features burgers that range in all sizes. You will need some bear paws to grab a hold of the Big Bear Supreme, a burger that is 7 inches in diameter. It comes with many toppings including ham, cheese, banana peppers, and plenty of ground beef on a delicious homemade bun. The Big Bear Burger is the traditional burger offered at Brown Bear. For regular appetites, I recommend the Cub Burger or the Wimpy Burger. All of the juicy burgers at the Brown Bear Restaurant have a delicious grilled flavor. The French fries are delicious; as are the deep-fried mushrooms. The Brown Bear Restaurant is a great place for friends to gather where the service is excellent and the food is great. The Michigan Historical Museum, in Lansing, Michigan, is a great place for families!

Michigan Historical MuseumHave fun and learn the history of Michigan, all in one jam-packed building. The Michigan Historical Museum is the flagship of the State of Michigan’s large collection of historical sites. It’s located in downtown Lansing on Kalamazoo Avenue, just a few blocks from both the capital and from the Michigan Hall of Justice, off Martin Luther King Boulevard. It’s open seven days a week, and is free to the public. There is a fee for parking during the week, but on the weekend the parking is free. You’ll be fascinated as you stroll through the pages of history of the Great Lake State, all in one museum. Each floor covers different historical eras—the first floor is a welcome center with occasional special exhibits; the second floor covers pre-history through the end of the 18th century; the third floor covers from the 1900’s through the 1970’s. My favorite gallery is the 1920’s, or the Roaring Twenties, as they were called. In the 1920’s gallery you’ll cruise the brick streets of downtown Detroit during the days of flappers, speakeasies, and the model T! Costumed docents will set the scene for you, whether you want to know how Henry Ford developed his automobile factories or what it might have been like being a rumrunner. Step into the elegantly decorated theater, or peer into the windows of the JL Hudson department store, the worlds tallest department store in 1928. But maybe you prefer learning about the Depression, or a bit about Michigan’s involvement in World War II, when Michigan was known as “The Arsenal of Democracy”. You can see an authentic 1950’s kitchen, with cupboards full of Michigan-made products. But there is more! With Michigan being the car capital of the world, you’ll enjoy seeing a red Corvette and even get to work on designing your own car, and can observe Henry Ford’s assembly line and his model T. You can walk through a mine, or into a lumber baron’s grand house, or perhaps sit at a desk and see what school life was like in the late 1800’s. It’s all there!

The English Inn, in Eaton Rapids, Michigan, is the perfect Romantic Getaway!

The English InnThe English Inn is the perfect setting for romance…whether it is an anniversary, a birthday, a wedding or any other special occasion you are celebrating, you will enjoy doing it in style at the English Inn. Visiting the English Inn is a bit like stepping back in time as you walk into the Tudor-revival style building located just north of Eaton Rapids on the Grand River. There you will be greeted with antiques, fine oak furnishings and refined elegance. You may select to dine in the main floor dining rooms, or visit the authentic English Pub located downstairs on the Garden level, for more casual fare. My recommendation for the Pub is their French Dip Roast Beef sandwich! No matter where you dine, you will find the food to be delicious and the service extraordinary. The English Inn is also the perfect setting for weddings-there is a beautiful area alongside the Grand River for your dream wedding. The gardens, trellises, and ponds wind through the property, and create a wonderful backdrop for photos and conversation, and there is a large hall which is perfect for the reception. The Inn also offers overnight accommodation, of course, in your choice of six antique-filled rooms, each with its own private bath, queen-sized bed, and complimentary coffee and breakfast each morning. There are also guest cottages on the grounds to choose from. Want to find more great businesses in your area? Visit GlobalYP the online local yellow pages.

Read It Again Books in Novi, MI, The Coolest Used Bookstore in Metro Detroit

Posted by admin on August 01, 2009
Retail Stores / No Comments

Read It Again Books in NoviI am a big fan of books. I do love purchasing a new book, because I’m the first person to read that particular copy. I’m the first one to crack the binding, to bend the pages, to highlight passages if I choose to do so. On the other side of the coin, there is something intriguing about a used book. Who read this book before me? What passages or words did they feel was important? What’s the story behind this book? This is why I LOVE a great little bookstore in Novi, Michigan, called Read It Again Books. Upon my first trip to this bookstore, I fell in love with it immediately. It’s kinda small, but overflowing with collectibles, used books, and even new books. If the store doesn’t have what you want in stock, they will happily special order it for you. The used books are brimming with history, and there is plenty of seating to enjoy whatever book or books you’ve selected. The staff is genuine and helpful, and the corporate feeling you get when you walk into a chain bookstore is definitely missing from this store, and that’s a good thing. This is the kind of bookstore you could get lost in for hours at a time, and for once I don’t mind being lost. I highly recommend Read It Again Books! Want to find more great businesses in your area? Michael J. Salon in Southgate, Michigan, An Amazing Hair Salon!

Michael J. Salon in SouthgateMy cousin decided to give me a wonderful birthday present 2 years ago. She told me she’d take me to the hair salon she goes to, so I could get my hair done. I’d never had it done professionally, so I was really excited. We ended up at Michael J. Salon in Southgate, Michigan. My appointment was with Joanne, the owner of the salon. We discussed what kind of cut and color would look best, and she got started. I’ve never met a friendlier and more upbeat person. Joanne was smiling and laughing the whole time, telling jokes, anecdotes, asking questions, basically going above and beyond. She and her staff were just amazing and down to earth. A lot of times when you go to a salon, the staff is uptight and pretentious, but not Michael J. Salon. We decided to do layers in the back of my hair, with side-swept bangs in front. The color went from a medium brown to a light brown with dark blonde highlights. The process was quite enjoyable, due in part to Joanne’s personality, but also due to her unbelievable skills. She quickly turned my mousy plain hair into a beautiful, up-to-date look. I was ecstatic!! The prices are extremely reasonable, unlike other salons that cost an entire week’s paycheck. Since then, I’ve had both Joanne and Kari doing my hair, and they both do an EXCEPTIONAL job. I would DEFINITELY recommend Michael J. Salon to anyone! Want to find more great businesses in your area?
