For A Lovely Night Out Try Luka’s Taproom In Oakland, CA

Posted by Keri W. on June 11, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

Luka’s Taproom is one of the older of the new additions in downtown Oakland and has consistently delivered on both food and lively ambience. This is not the place to go if you are looking for a quiet intimate dinner for two, but a fantastic place to go for some great food and rowdy conversation with a group. They also have an area adjacent to the bar and dining room that features dance lessons, DJs and regular nightly dancing themes. In the back of the “taproom” is a pool area. So, really there is something for everyone here. The food is unexpectedly good. Coming here, you think you are in for regular bar food. Not the case. The food is consistently rich and rather original. They have oysters and a raw bar, but they also do a delicious array of menu items from soups and salads, burgers, lamb and fish etc. They also do a great job on cocktails and desserts. You can show up here without a reservation on most weeknights but I would suggest reservations after 6pm on Friday through Sunday nights. Also, if there are concerts in the nearby venues, you will definitely need reservations if you want dinner. If you want an easy to use online directory, look no further than globalYP.net.

The Chillicothe Aquatic Center in Simpson Park (1503 Walnut St) in Chillicothe, MO is a fun activity for young and old alike. The pool is great family entertainment for a hot summer day. The pool has slides, diving boards, a kiddie pool and “beach” play area. The waterslide is a very popular spot! It is a 100-foot slide with enclosed and open slides, making it thrilling for everyone. The shallow “beach” area has a graduated depth from zero to three feet and an umbrella shaped fountain in the shallow end for children to play beneath the waterfall. There is a gated area with a kiddie pool for parents to supervise their very young child’s play in two shallow pools. The pool is staffed with certified lifeguards and is clean, plus the rules are enforced. There is a concession stand that offers cool treats and drinks. The women’s and men’s changing areas include restrooms, lockers and showers and they’re very spacious. The pool is Olympic sized and has a large six-foot deep area for swimming. The pool is located in a beautiful city park. It is surrounded by many trees, and is near a golf course. Stop In At The Station In Stanwood, WA For Food And Fun

Posted by Keri W. on May 26, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places, Sports & Recreation / No Comments

The Station, once a simple pool hall, as been transformed into a coffee shop, a restaurant, a hangout, and more. They offer several forms of entertainment for their younger customers such as ping pong and a Wii system in the back room. In addition to these, the Station still offers pool by the hour and has seven or eight tables lined up behind their front counter. The staff is very nice and eager to serve you food, coffee, or cold drinks like soda. They have menus hanging from the ceiling that list all of their available meals, as well as rates for games (which are rather inexpensive). The Station opens early in the morning and caters to whose would like a quiet place to hang out before work or while out running errands. They have couches and comfy chairs in the main lobby area for lounging in, and will bring food or drinks to you, rather than making you get up and come to the counter. The atmosphere is very comfortable, and has been nicknamed by visitors as “Stanwood’s living room.”The rustic looking inside also has dim lights and quiet music playing, adding to the comfortable feeling you get while there. Michael’s Billiards & Sports Bar, A Friendly Oasis In Amherst, MA

michael's billiards & sports barOne of my favorite places to go out with friends is Michael’s Billiards & Sports Bar in Amherst, MA. It is a great place to enjoy the game and have a few drinks, and an even better place to play some pool. Some of the other billiards places in the area have a long wait for tables, but Michael’s always has tables open so my friends and I can get right into our game. You never have to spend much time waiting on anything else at Michael’s, either. There are always plenty of people working, and they are very quick about keeping you stocked with a pitcher of beer. The prices on both pool and beer are great. This is definitely one of the best deals in the area. I like feeling like I can afford to spend as much time playing without worrying about the cost. Another plus is the pizza joint right next door, as the staff at Michael’s is always happy to let customers bring in any pizza purchase and enjoy it at the bar! Everything is very clean, which I really appreciate. The pizza, beer and pool, combined with the great service and friendliness of the staff, really make going to Michael’s a great experience! Chemex can give you the right tools, chemicals, and advice to help get you swimming in clean water in no time. The employees are not pushy and get their job done efficiently, which allows for a great shopping experience. They usually have most merchandise and parts in stock in either one of their two locations. The stuff they do not sell can usually be ordered and come in within a day or two. I ordered a filter grid for a non-brand name filter and had it special ordered. Surprisingly, it was delivered to the store within three days! The prices are very competitive for a small business, and it allows for me to obtain good advice at a place I actually like to shop at. The water testing is very easy to understand and the employees go over everything you must do to correct corrosive, green, cloudy, or slimy water. Therefore, all customers properly understand what they must do to fix the problem. The shelves are neatly organized by product type and the standard items are conveniently located at the front of the store, for those customers who are in a hurry. The service department is excellent. Most filter cleanings or robot repairs are usually done within three days, depending on the problem. Routine cleanings are usually done within two to three hours. The Cajun Cafe Has Super Seafood In Fargo, ND

Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

http://www.flickr.com/photos/smercury98/3530644033/Walking in to The Cajun Cafe you’ll notice that it’s a pretty tiny place. But as soon as you walk in the doors you will be blown away by the professional looking casual dining facilities that they maintain. The floor is divided into two sections, one of which could easily be converted into a banquet room. Downstairs you’ll find a bar that will make you feel right at home. The bar has pool, darts, and of course, a television. I’ve never heard of anyone having poor service here. The servers are all experienced, and to my surprise there aren’t many of them at all. I knew them all by name and smile after only a few visits. The cooks are all pretty shy, they make an appearance every now and then walking through to stock up behind the counter or fill up the soup and sandwich bar. Now let’s get to the food. The concept here is that the food is southern style seafood, burgers, and even breakfast plates. They have fresh cut and cooked crawfish, breaded croc meat, lobster, and more on the seafood menu. I had to try the croc while I had the chance. It was amazing, almost like spicy chicken but the meat had a whole different taste to it. Needless to say, this was my first experience with it. The breakfast menu is something you can’t easily find in town. Their buttermilk biscuits and gravy is delectable. Don’t even think about passing on having a sweet potato biscuit or pancakes. With a nice firm outer coat and a center that melts away the morning, the breakfast will make your day. The only way to truly enjoy this diamond in the rough is to get out and try their unique menu for yourself. I can say honestly that when I heard, and saw, that they specialize in seafood I was a bit turned off. Of course my mind was quickly changed after visiting. Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

Luby’s Bar and Grill has everything you need…great food, great drinks, and great entertainment! The staff is fun and friendly and the cover charge for events and/or scheduled entertainment is offered either at a very reasonable price or for free. Besides the active sports bar, Luby’s Bar and Grill offers excellent food at reasonable prices. You can get chips and dip with hot wings or something healthier like tilapia rice and veggies. There is a nice sit down eating area, away from all the activity, so you don’t have to worry about being in someone’s way while you eat. There are also tables where you can eat at in front of the stage, where you can see local acts play on a regular basis. If you’re not quite hungry yet or need something to do before a live show or event, Luby’s also offers a billiards room you where can play for just a dollar a game and work up an appetite while dancing to an old school style juke box for nostalgia to get in the mood. Luby’s Bar and Grill in Lawrenceville is actually one of my favorite places to play pool, eat and watch live shows with my friends because it never gets boring and the prices are so reasonable. Luby’s is such a fun place to hang out for anyone over 21 that I can’t actually think of a reason why you shouldn’t go. The Phoenix Makes For A Fun Night In Saint Louis, MO

Posted by Keri W. on March 08, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

A few of my friends decided to go to The Phoenix last Saturday night for the first time. I was a little put off by the $5 cover charge at the door, but once inside, the drink specials made up for it! The place is huge!! I advise getting there a little early if you want a good seat, because they started filling up pretty quick. The bartender was super friendly and very fast! She recommended some really good shots! They had, what they called, “The beat the clock special”. Drafts were only 50 cents and rails were only 75 cents! The price went up a little each hour until they were back to $2 drafts and $3 rails. Needless to say, I was happy with the prices. The food was your typical bar food, but they had really good burgers. The prices on food were pretty cheap too. I couldn’t believe how good the band sounded. They have a great sound system in that place. There was a DJ during the band’s breaks and he was entertaining as well. There were a very wide range of customers. I didn’t feel too old or too young and people watching made for a really good time. They have a TON of pool tables in there and at a buck a game, I had to play a few rounds. I wasn’t too sure about going there, because I had heard the staff was rude, but everyone was very nice and really seemed like they were having as good of a time as we were! If you’re in the area, you should drop in there for sure. I know that we will be going back! Stop by globalYP.net for local business listings available online.

Grab A Drink At Legends In Champaign, IL

Posted by Keri W. on February 25, 2010
Eating & Drinking Places / No Comments

On the campus of the University of Illinois there are many bars. Legends is one that I have been to. Legends is a very nice 21 and up bar. It has big booths, small tables, and seats at the bar. There is a pool table in the back of the bar where you can usually find people playing. The lighting is very odd, in some places it is very dim and in others it is very bright. The bathrooms are well taken care of, and have good lighting. There is a statue of the old University of Illinois Mascot, Chief Illniwick and the bar has a huge entryway which makes it feel more welcoming. It is found in the group of bars on campus so it gets a lot of traffic from people going bar hopping as well as students. The bar has wooden floors, which is a nice break from all the linoleum floors that are found in most of the bars here in Champaign. The booths could be just a little more padded, but that is not that big of a deal, and most people sit at the bar anyways. The mirrors in the back of the bar make the back of the bar seem much lighter than the front of it so you can find the perfect spot for you.
