Famous Dave’s BBQ in Puyallup, WA is a place you have to see in order to fully understand the experience. Located at 3811 9th St Southwest, it’s a combination of bar, restaurant, and game lounge, with unique and rather interesting dinner specialties. What I mean by unique and interesting is that for house specialty meat, they actually serve them on what’s called “trash cans” (yes, trash cans.) That’s not to say it is a health liability, it’s literally a plate the size of a trash can. Famous Dave’s is known for meat, and you won’t be disappointed here. By seeing and believing you will understand why Famous Dave’s got its name. If you’re not looking for meat, and want to get a drink, the house has on tap ale, and specialty drinks (about 6-8.00 depending on your taste). Want to catch the game on your night out? This place has a bar to watch while you enjoy a drink. Hate crowds? Head outside, they have tables for people outside of the hustle and bustle as well. It’s a lodge environment from the start once you get here. By going anywhere else, you get “pizzazz”. Here, it’s straight forward good food and unique atmosphere, which is something not easily come by. It’s not a place to really keep in mind for bringing the kids, but there are still smaller meals to accommodate you if you decided to bring them. If you wanted the latest in Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh or Warhammer in the Puyallup area, you might find it at Game On inside the Southill Mall. They play host to a maelstrom of tournaments from time to time, and it’s not unusual to stay a bit longer just to talk about the latest fads once you’ve made your purchase. Their prices are just right for what you need, and the staff isn’t rude by any means, which is a testament to their restraint. I have to give it to these guys on a Friday night, this places starts to get packed. You will see competition beckon even experienced Magic: The Gathering players here, and even Star Wars players (which you don’t see often in this state). The only sad thing is that they never have a Warhammer night, even though they have the tables. However, during the week the store has scheduled events you can look forward to, and placing a few bucks here would be a solid investment towards the future of this store. While I was in Puyallup, WA I ate at a unique pizza place called Trackside Pizza. It’s a small but lovely looking restaurant that sells pizza, grinders, salads and things like that. I love the atmosphere of Trackside as it feels immediately inviting and almost historic in appearance. They have an old train track running along near the restaurant, which appears to have been there for a very long time and adds to the experience. As for the food, I ordered there Grand Trunk Express Pizza, which happens to be their most popular pizza. The pizza has a ton of toppings on it and is extremely delicious. Their dough is prepared fresh daily and they only use the freshest ingredients. The service was wonderful, as they are friendly and very professional. One thing I did miss out with this restaurant, which I will know for next time, is I did not bring my kids. The reason is because children get to design their own pizza any way they like until it’s perfect and then they have it sent to the oven to be cooked. I have not been to a restaurant before that allows you to create your own pizza. I think you will really love Trackside Pizza, especially if you have kids. It will be a memorable experience.
