Are you Irish? Do you just want to party? The best, old school, place to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Sacramento is Brownie’s in the South Hills shopping center. If you live in the Land Park, South Land Park, Greenhaven, or Pocket neighborhoods, this is the place to be on March 17. Your host, Clare Brown, is a former Irishman of the Year. However, there is nothing “former” about the Irish authenticity of Brownie’s. Brownie’s is well-known for having the best corned beef and cabbage in town. The portions are large and tasty. There will be real Irish music including bagpipes and a band. Brownie’s has a full bar with congenial bartenders, so whether you want a Guinness stout, a Bailey’s, or an Irish whiskey, it will be available. While you have to pay admission to celebrate the day in mid-town Sacramento, there is no admission charge at Brownies, a true dive bar, and the parking is free, as well. To be safe take a bus which will let you off right at the corner of South Land Park Drive and 35th Avenue. Be part of a Sacramento tradition and celebrate at Brownie’s. Located on the brick streets of historic downtown Maysville, Kentucky get ready to party at O’Rourkes Pub on St. Patrick’s Day this year! If you’ve come to the quaint river town of Maysville to relax you just can’t beat an evening spent at an atmospheric, brick walled pub, sipping your green beer, playing some darts, watching the big screen TV and enjoying the company. It’s easy to see that this will be the place to be on St. Patrick’s Day! Inside the pub you’ll find antique brick walls and a worn wooden floor. Small but comfortable you’ll find some great drinks, food and friendship here. Great pizza and appetizers are served right to your table by the friendly barkeeps. Sit at one of the big round tables or outside on the semi-enclosed patio if it’s warm enough. This place gets crowded so arrive early for a good spot! Just a block from the Ohio River floodwall, you can take some time to stroll down and admire the paintings that grace the wall. Maybe you are staying at the French Quarter Inn for the night, with a river view room. If so, O’Rourkes is just a block from the Inn. Get ready for a great night out in Maysville, KY! Sonny McLean’s Irish Pub on Wilshire in Santa Monica, CA is the perfect place for relocated Bostonians, Red Sox fans and people who just love a quality Irish pub. The entire place is covered, inside and out, with Boston sports memorabilia. There are tons of high-backed booths with tables so you can order drinks and food. If you have a big group – they even have a separate room that I am sure you can reserve. If you are in the mood for great pub grub, beers with friends and sports – Sonny’s is the place for you. They have a great menu that features everything from Fish N Chips, to Guinness Beef Pie, to Sheppard’s Pie, to Boston Steak (New York Strip) and even Irish Nachos! They have pub trivia on Tuesday nights, Karaoke on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights and enough drink specials to keep you happy and I think they give out cash on Thursdays – I was confused when I went, so I better look into for that next time. There aren’t many Irish pubs in LA – so if you are in the mood for an Irish pub or it’s St. Patrick’s Day and you have no place to go… Sonny’s has you covered. Every year on Saint Patrick’s Day all of my friends and I travel through The San Fernando Valley, over the hill, and in to Santa Monica where we hang out at this really cool Irish pub called O’Briens Irish Pub and Restaurant. It is located close to the beautiful beach on Main Street in the wonderful city of Santa Monica, California. They have the most amazing homemade guacamole with (always) fresh tortilla chips. I can’t remember one time that we didn’t ask for seconds. That’s just for starts though. Then we move onto those famous buffalo chicken wings until our lips fall off. And of course you know I can’t leave out one of the key ingredients of the whole nights – beer. You’ve got your choice of Guinness, Harp Lager, Smithwicks, Fat Tire, and the list goes on. Happy hour is from noon to 7PM. They have a different band every night that starts at 10PM and they all rock. O’Briens Irish Pub is without a doubt, a spot you want to call your hang out, that’s for sure. You can check out their website or MySpace page for more information and make sure you check out the awesome pictures they have posted on their sites. Cheers and see you all soon down at O’Brien’s. Kells Restaurant & Pub is a fantastic place to spice up the St. Patrick’s Day festivities. There is live music and great food in the heart of downtown Portland. On St. Patrick’s Day this pub is in full force. The Irish dancing, and Irish bagpipes makes all of us feel a bit Irish. Face painted clovers on the kid’s cheeks, and it’s encouraged for the adults to do the same. Consumers that have come from all over the globe are soon overflowing out of the pub and onto street with their green beer and smiles from ear to ear. There is a parade on St. Patrick’s Day and it goes right by Kells. It’s a festival inside and out. All who enter this house of cheer walk away with some Irish pride. Although there is a crowd ranging in the ages from, mid twenties to early forties, one can still find a nice quiet spot and enjoy a cigar with a fine single malt. There is a downstairs that has an old-world feel. If you are a fan of single malts, then this is the place to go. The selection is overwhelming and the age of these scotches date back over hundreds of years. The selection is not to be intimidating because the bartenders at Kells are well educated on the subject. Even if it is your first time in a place of this caliber the bartender will teach you a few tips and pair your pallet with a fine cigar and scotch. The whole day of celebrating can be done at Kells, a full experience of being Irish. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
O’Keefe’s Restaurant at 1219 South Fort Harrison Avenue in Clearwater, Florida is host to Florida’s largest St. Patrick’s Day party. Each year, this giant inside and outdoor festival is host to hundreds of people of all ages, tons of corned beef, numerous local and national live bands, gallons of green beer, Riverdancers, and plenty of tent space in case it rains. The annual St. Patrick’s day celebration at O’Keefe’s Family Tavern and Grill is for those who love an outside experience and can also handle a crowd of people. The people are friendly but boisterous. Be sure you keep your partner and family within eyeshot because the crowds get pretty raucous as the day wears into the night. Some of the bands playing on St. Patrick’s Day are the Hooligans, The Black Honkeys, and The Irish Music Band. The tent opens at eleven in the morning. Other features of the festival usually include face paintings, balloon animals, and carnival games. Usually the patio area is pet friendly, but during this busy party of hundreds of people, it is probably better to leave Scruffy at home. Children are always welcomed at O’Keefe’s Family Tavern and Grill although again this is a huge party and there is often language and at least a couple of drunken brawls after dark, so take Johnny or Jane home by then. Even President Obama stopped by O’Keefe’s Family Tavern and Grill once for a bite and a drink. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
I will be attending my St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Fado’s Irish Pub in Seattle. This pub is centrally located in the middle of downtown close to Pike Place market and other places of interest. I love this pub because they are very modern but at the same time can give you a feeling of being in the old country. They claim that they have the best Pint of Guinness Stout in town and I believe them. There is nothing like meeting at the pub with friends after work and kicking back then enjoying a fine beverage and some amazing food. Fado’s throws one of the best St.Patrick’s Day celebrations in town. Be sure to be there when the green beer starts flowing and the singing and dancing commences. The service at this pub is very good and the prices are very affordable. I chose this pub due to the fact that it reminds me of an old place with a modern feel. The pub is full of nooks and crannies so that you and your friends can have a private time drinking and catching up. Fado’s is definitely one of Seattle’s best Irish pubs and truly lives up to its reputation of being the place to go to. Mullaney’s Harp and Fiddle Irish Pub is a genuine Irish pub in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Located on Penn Avenue in the city’s famed Strip District, the Harp and Fiddle is the ideal spot to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day. The holiday is a two day celebration at the Harp and Fiddle, beginning with Parade Day, when the city of Pittsburgh holds its annual Irish procession. Then, the Harp and Fiddle keeps the party rolling on Saint Patrick’s Day with much music, dancing, eating, and drinking. Mullaney’s welcoming atmosphere is just what one might expect from an authentic Irish pub. The Harp and Fiddle has a special winter menu, which includes pub grub, salads, and soups. The loaded baked potato soup is fantastic! Sandwiches such as the Regan Burger, the Phil O’ Delphia Chicken, the Roscommon Reuben, and the Irish Gyro are delicious, too. Small plates include River Shannon Potato Pancakes, Blarney Chicken Boxty, and Bangers and Mashed. Big Plates include Shepherd’s Pie, Irish Stew, Corned Beef and Cabbage, and Clonakilty Chicken Pierre. You might want to have a pint along with your plate. Mullaney’s Harp and Fiddle offers pints of Harp, Newcastle, Murphy’s, Guinness, and Smithwick’s, to name just a few. If you feel the need for another Irish party six months down the road, Mullaney’s Harp and Fiddle holds an annual “Half Way to Saint Patrick’s Day” celebration in September, as well. James E. McNellies Public House in Tulsa, OK is a great place to go with your friends for a fun night. Every Wednesday they have Burger Night, where burgers are only $3. Don’t forget to get your order of Sweet Potato fries. As you guessed, Wednesday’s are very busy and fun. Great place to meet others in Tulsa. The atmosphere is fantastic. The staff is attentive and the customers add class to the restaurant. One time my friend announced her engagement, the manager overhearing our reactions, had his bartender give her a drink on the house. We always have fun playing darts or shuffle board upstairs on Burger Night. I will admit the upstairs is kind of smokey. The downstairs is set up more for dining and is family friendly. The place is so good that there is normally a waiting list. Since they just added a new bar area the line moves much faster. In November they sponsor my favorite running event, which is the McNellies Pub Run. You can even take the Guinness Challenge, where you must drink 3 (12 oz) Guinness before completing the run. This adds an interesting twist to the event. This is a great Irish Pub and while I haven’t been there for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration yet, I do plan on attending this year! I encourage everyone in the area to come out and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at McNellies. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
If you are looking for a great place to spend St. Patrick’s Day with your friends, I have that place for you – Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown NY. I have been going there for years with my friends. It is one big non-stop party from 11 AM until well past midnight. All day, you can get your green beer; however, the Guinesss is highly recommended. During St. Patrick’s Day, they serve a full Irish menu so if you want your corned beef and cabbage, Napper Tandy’s has you covered. They usually play a mix of rock and dance songs you hear on the radio, but they also play “Danny Boy” and songs like that during the entire day. The place is packed to the nines, but everybody is pretty happy. And why wouldn’t they be? There are drink specials and free giveaways all day; one never feels like they are being ripped off when they come to Napper Tandy’s. On St Patrick’s Day, Napper Tandy’s is the place where you want to be. Good times, good friends, really good fun. They aren’t just a great bar on St. Paddy’s, other days of the week there are cheap burgers and beers, a beer pong tournament and DJ’s. They even have a night devoted just to UFC! But on St Paddy’s Day, come to Napper Tandy’s in Smithtown NY. I guarantee you will love it. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
