My family and I have been living in the Somerville, NJ area for more than two decades. Alfonso’s has been a family favorite ever since my parents immigrated from Ireland to New Jersey over 20 years ago. My parents still tell the story of the first pizza they ever tasted in America, Alfonso’s. Ever since that first bite, it’s the only place we’ll get pizza. Alfonso’s pizza is a family favorite for a reason. They use only the best ingredients and the people making the pizza are usually from Italy itself. Let me tell you something, Italians know how to make a good pizza. Alfonso’s has been family owned and operated for more than twenty years. In every slice of pizza you can taste the love. Unlike other pizza stores and pizza chains, Alfonso’s cares about the quality of their food and it shows. They will never sell you an unsatisfying pizza. That is why I feel Alfonso’s is the best place to get pizza in the tri-state area. If you try it, I’m sure you’ll agree 100%. My Girlfriend and I went to Redbone’s Barbecue last year for Valentine’s Day. Not a traditional way to spend the special day, certainly, but definitely a memorable one! The food was delicious! I ordered a huge plate of brisket, Texas dry-rub ribs, and beef ribs. Underneath those were a large portion of the most flavorful French fries I’ve ever eaten, as well as a huge helping of mac n’ cheese. My girlfriend ordered a pulled pork sandwich – which I absolutely had to try. It was just as delicious as my plate of ribs, if not more so. The only downside to the whole experience was that it took a little longer than we were expecting to find a seat. We had to wait about 15-20 minutes before sitting down. I would recommend calling ahead and making a reservation. However, the service was incredibly fast. We had our meals in less than 10 minutes after sitting down – and this was a packed restaurant, too. Redbone’s seems to be constrained by the location, because if they could find a larger building they would be able to seat many more people and reduce the wait time during high-traffic times. The cost actually wasn’t bad, especially for a restaurant in Massachusetts, and the decor of the place really gave off a fun vibe. We’ve been back since, and plan on going again before we leave Boston. I highly recommend it. To find other great places in your area, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.
East Star Restaurant in Somerville, NJ is probably one of the best Chinese restaurants I have ever been to! Not only is the food excellent, but the mood is also great and the service is top-quality. There is a wide variety of food, which appeals to many taste buds. The dishes served range from seafood to soup, and sushi to sweet and sour chicken. Although the restaurant is Chinese-oriented, there are still American delights. These include pizza, cake, French fries, nuggets, and ice cream. All of the food has great taste, but the real satisfaction is in the Chinese food! Servings range from Chinese snacks, such as dumplings or fried rice, to various side dishes like General Tso’s chicken. Never in my life have I experienced the taste of Chinese food as well as at East Star Restaurant. There is even a section where you can request a special type of noodles, complete with additions of your choice! The aura is great. The restaurant has a wonderful aesthetic appeal, with various paintings that help bring China to the customer. The seats and tables are always clean and service is exceptional. Waiters always greet you and make sure to get drinks and checks to you in a timely manner. To top it all off, the fee is quite inexpensive! With no shortage of burger and beer joint options in and around Somerville, it can be a daunting challenge to find the real roses among the thorns. What I look for is a clean, friendly and comfortable restaurant with a neighborhood feel and a real commitment to quality food and drink. R.F. O’Sullivan and Son on Beacon Street in Somerville succeeds admirably on all counts. It’s small enough to be cozy, but not cramped. Don’t let the wood paneled generic pub décor fool you, it’s well maintained by a helpful and friendly staff, who remembered me after only my second visit. They even installed a fireplace last winter that is perfect for chasing away the cold New England chills. But now down to the real business. The food is simply outstanding. The make crisp salads, spicy chicken wings, tender steak tips, and healthy chicken sandwiches. All these are great but I hardly ever order them for one simple reason, the best burgers in town. A strong claim, I know. Particularly so, within a mile of Four Burgers, The Independent, and the ancient and lauded Bartley’s of Harvard Square. Trust me folks, this is the real champion, all the better for being a little off the beaten path. Handmade in-house and enormous, these guys come cooked to order. And the best part: more than twenty different varieties to choose from. Everything from loaded with sautéed peppers and Italian sausage, gone tropical with pineapple and ham, with a center stuffed with blue cheese, or even just good old fashioned lettuce and tomato. Wash them down with their great selection of imported and micro-brew draughts, a cold can of Pabst or one of their trashcan-sized sodas and you’ll leave satisfied. They do it all folks, and do it better than the rest. To find more great places in the Somerville area, visit GlobalYP.net the online local search directory.
