James E. McNellies Public House in Tulsa, OK is a great place to go with your friends for a fun night. Every Wednesday they have Burger Night, where burgers are only $3. Don’t forget to get your order of Sweet Potato fries. As you guessed, Wednesday’s are very busy and fun. Great place to meet others in Tulsa. The atmosphere is fantastic. The staff is attentive and the customers add class to the restaurant. One time my friend announced her engagement, the manager overhearing our reactions, had his bartender give her a drink on the house. We always have fun playing darts or shuffle board upstairs on Burger Night. I will admit the upstairs is kind of smokey. The downstairs is set up more for dining and is family friendly. The place is so good that there is normally a waiting list. Since they just added a new bar area the line moves much faster. In November they sponsor my favorite running event, which is the McNellies Pub Run. You can even take the Guinness Challenge, where you must drink 3 (12 oz) Guinness before completing the run. This adds an interesting twist to the event. This is a great Irish Pub and while I haven’t been there for a Saint Patrick’s Day celebration yet, I do plan on attending this year! I encourage everyone in the area to come out and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day at McNellies. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.

DoubleShot Coffee is one of the hidden jewels of the Tulsa, OK metropolitan area. It serves the best coffee and is so hidden, that you can use it as a valuable oasis to escape from the troubles of the day. Owned by Brian Franklin, coffee aficionado and part-time bodybuilder/mixed martial arts fighter, DoubleShot is like no other coffee shop you have come to. Brian’s passion for coffee comes out in every cup, and his hired baristas demonstrate that passion. Brian will only hire baristas who have won competitions, which demonstrate their espresso related acumen. Without these merits, you can forget about making a drink at DoubleShot. The lead barista, Isaiah, is always looking to hone his espresso-making skills and he has won numerous competitions nationwide. Brian’s stringent criteria make for a great latte, Americano, or mocha every time. The prices are reasonable, at about $3.50 a latte, and the drip coffee is nonpareil. One of the best features about the coffee shop, however, is that DoubleShot also roasts its own beans. Many coffee shops in Tulsa have chosen to produce their coffee from DoubleShot beans, because they are unparalleled. Interested customers should keep in mind that every Tuesday, a pound of beans is three dollars off. So do yourself a favor and head on over to DoubleShot – you will not be disappointed! Looking for the best contemporary comfort food in the Midwest? Well look no further than Fire Rock Grill & Bar in Tulsa, OK! This locally owned restaurant opened in September of this year and has been going strong ever since! The food is entirely homemade- yes, you read correctly! It is freshly made from scratch on a daily basis! Everything, down to the salad dressings has been created from the mind of head chef Keenan and his wonderful kitchen staff. Another great thing about Fire Rock is the atmosphere! The restaurant is always clean and well kept. The colors create a soft sense of comfort throughout the dining room (an homage to the comfort of coming home from a hard day’s work). The decor reflects a modern take on southern comfort, down to the lava rock display once you walk through the doors. The bar is cozy and separated from the main dining room, which allows for an overall better environment for families that dine here. There are six large flat screen HDTVs (one that points out towards the waiting area, so the guests can be entertained on a wait!). These TVs are set to different sporting events and can be changed upon guest request. Overall, if you are a fan of great food, great service, and a great atmosphere, Fire Rock Grill & Bar is the restaurant experience for you! Casa Bonita, in Tulsa, is a nostalgic favorite. The ambiance is inviting, and pleasant for a casual date. I’ve been there for a Valentine’s Day banquet. It is set up like a nighttime street fair, in Mexico, but it is actually indoors, sparing you the Oklahoma weather. It is a rather large restaurant, so even if there is a line, there will likely be plenty of seating. Casa Bonita has several different themed rooms. There is a traditional-style Spanish dining area, for formal occasions. There is a volcano room, complete with lighted eruptions. Another room is like sitting outside of an old mission, while yet another has a carousel. There is also much to offer by way of entertainment. At various times there may be a mariachi band or a magician. There is also a popular game room featuring classic arcade amusements. Of course, in a restaurant, the food is important. Casa Bonita is known for its Mexican cuisine. It has been coined as “Tulsa’s favorite Mexican restaurant,” and for good reason. It introduced many people, through the years to Tex-Mex cooking. It is ordered taqueria-style. Service has been attentive every time I’ve been there, and you can request refills simply by lifting a flag at the table. The hours are Sunday through Thursday 11:00 A.M.-9:00 P.M. Friday through Saturday 11:00 A.M.-10:00 P.M. To find other great places this Holiday, visit globalYP.net, a local online directory.

Tucked away on the edge of the Osage hills is the Gilcrease Museum. This is one of Tulsa’s greatest places to experience the Old West in all its glory and a great place to take the family for the afternoon. Galleries hold priceless works of Western art, artifacts and exhibits. This museum has a surprisingly large collection of famous Western painters, showing the West as it was before human settlement. Among the collections are paintings by George Catlin, famous painter and recorder of Native American tribes. This amazing man went among the Native people before the plains were settled and he painted and wrote about them in very complete detail. He seemed sincerely interested in the Native people and did not sensationalize the West as many opportunists did in those days. The museum has gardens to explore, a restauruant with a fantastic view of the Osage Hills, and many rotating and temporary exhibits in addition to the wonderful collections. Visiting the Gilcrease museum is like stepping back in time and is a wonderful experience for all ages. It remains to be Tulsa’s best kept secret. Gilcrease Museum is under administration of Tulsa University, a fine private university. An education department is active and provides activities for area teachers and students. Check their website: www.gilcrease.utulsa.edu for more details and schedules of special exhibitions and events. Want to find more great businesses in your area? Wholesale Hot Tubs and Recreation is an Oklahoma business that has been around for many years now. They sell hot tubs, pools, pool tables and all of the needed accessories for these products, with many models to choose from. Located in an easily found location, with parking available, and a well trained and friendly staff, you can’t beat Wholesale Hot Tubs and Recreation. The employees are very well versed in their field and they are all extremely nice. They are helpful, educated about their products and are eager to please. On several occasions, I have needed their assistance to troubleshoot a problem with my hot tub and they’ve always taken the time to assist me, whether on the phone or in person. Even if the problem is complicated, they are willing to help solve it. I have yet to find an employee at this store that is not helpful. If they don’t know the answer right away, they will always find out for you. The store always has enough of their products in stock as well. I have never gone there to buy chemicals or accessories without success. They also have the best prices that I have found in the area for hot tub needs. This includes the chemicals, covers, and cleaning supplies. I highly recommend this store to anyone in the Tulsa area. I also highly recommend globalYP.net, an online directory.
