Skycraft Surplus is a one of a kind store that’s packed from floor to ceiling with electronics surplus, mechanical parts, tools, and unidentifiable doodads. Anyone who loves to build or tinker in the garage could browse for hours here without being bored. Some items are brand new, and others have been lurking on the shelf for decades, waiting to be discovered. The staff is very knowledgeable, and can help in identifying that mystery part you’ve been searching for. Some of the “just for show” items are worth the trip to see, too. The front of the store is adorned with a lighted flying saucer and a giant missile. Inside are a collection of handmade radio controlled boats made by the owner, all with a certain vintage flair. Odd items like submarine tow antennae and hazmat suits hang from the ceiling. Skycraft is my favorite store, and I’ve come here looking for things like capacitors and resistors, stainless steel metric screws sold individually, linear bearings, unusual light bulbs, scrap metal pieces, copper clad board, and LEDs. I can’t seem to make a quick trip to this place. Any time I come here, I’m compelled to walk down every aisle at least once, just to make sure I’m not missing anything incredible. You are absolutely missing out if you don’t see this place! Don’t miss out on other places and be sure to check out globalYP.net, an easy to use online directory.
Winter Park
The minute you walk into the door, the smell of fresh baked dog cookies makes you realize this is not your ordinary pet supply store. Pookie’s Pet Nutrition & Bow Wow Bakery in Winter Park, Florida is THE place to fulfill all of your pet’s needs. From dog toys to leashes and high quality foods, they have it all. The store was founded on the philosophy that the better you feed your pets, the longer your pet will live and the happier they will be. When I first became a dog owner I was unsure of what to feed him. The staff at Pookie’s explained the options available to me and helped educate me about the many qualities of dog food available. I feel that I owe them a lot in regards to the health of my dog now at as he nears the age of seven. They also have a great way of spoiling my dog, a Boston Terrier, when he visits. Then again, maybe the free peanut butter cookie is just their way of getting him hooked because he sure loves them. I would recommend Pookie’s to anyone in the Orlando area who has a pet or is interested in getting one. It’s well worth the quick detour off I4 during your daily commute. We discovered Barducci Restaurant about four years ago when my husband stumbled upon it while out for lunch one day. Ever since then we have become regulars, so much that we now are “part of the family”. Barducci is a small Italian restaurant in the outskirts of Winter Park. We go frequently, especially on Saturdays or Sundays to take advantage of their fabulous buffet. It is available both days, all day. However, when we decide to order from their menu, you can’t go wrong with anything. They make everything from wings, sandwiches, Italian dishes and of course pizza. You are usually greeted by Nancy or Eric (owners) or by their friendly staff. My favorite dish is their Chicken Castellina, which is simply put delicious! We highly recommend this restaurant. We had our daughter’s first birthday catered by them and it was a huge hit. We served spaghetti and meatballs, garlic knots (best you can ever have) and salad. Everyone in attendance absolutely loved the food. This is a great spot for a first date, for a family dinner, a special occasion and even just for one of those nights when you don’t feel like making dinner. If you are in the area, I highly recommend you visit this little piece of Italy in Winter Park. By the way, Winter Park neighbors Orlando and Barducci is located several miles west from the University of Central Florida. A Comic Shop is the best comic shop around in Winter Park, FL. Located at 114 S Semoran Blvd, they have a staff full of people who love what they do and who enjoy talking to you about comics. They always are well stocked with the latest comics and graphic novels, and they are up to date on the latest issues coming out. If you have a particular favorite, they will set them aside for you till you come in. The shop also has movie nights, where I’ve personally gotten tickets to the best summer movies like Batman and The Watchmen. At the movie nights you can see the diversity of customers and feel the energy of the crowd, who are just as excited as you. Many times they have illustrators or authors come in for signings, which is so cool. The shop is always clean, making it easy to find something to buy, and the staff knows where everything is. They also have some great posters and range targets that are zombies, which I get a kick out of. When you’re at A Comic shop you feel great and not like you have to hide you comic appreciation.
